    The College of Professional Sciences at Xavier University invites applications for the position of Teaching Professor for the Social Work Department. Responsibilities include teaching at the BSW and MSW levels. This position requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    The social work department is in the process of applying to add an MSW to its BSW program which has been continuously accredited for over 40 years. This position will provide leadership to the field education program through practice experience, field instruction experience, and/or administrative or other relevant academic and professional activities in social work.

    This position is responsible for planning the field education component of the MSW program in cooperation with the MSW Program Director. This 9-month position includes both teaching and administrative duties. The MSW Field Director receives course releases for administering the field program. Responsibilities include:

    • Ensuring practicum placements for MSW level students
    • Identifying and vetting practicum sites
    • Providing orientation and training to practicum supervisors
    • Evaluating practicum supervisors and settings
    • Orient and place MSW students
    • Monitor, support, and evaluate student learning
    • Providing academic and professional advising to students
    • Teach practicum seminar and an additional course in the program
    • Assist in MSW initial accreditation and re-accreditation

    This position is designated for the Community-Engaged Early-Career Faculty Initiative which includes a course release in each of their first two years and participation in the Academy for Community-Engaged Faculty.

    Teaching professors are eligible for promotion to senior teaching professor based on teaching and service to the university.

    Required Qualifications:

    • A master’s social work degree from a CSWE-accredited program (or a CASWE-accredited degree recognized through an MOU with CSWE, or an ISWDRES-evaluated degree;
    • At least two (2) years of post-master’s social work degree practice experience in social work;
    • Experience with social work field education (administration, teaching, serving as a practicum supervisor);
    • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team;
    • Passion for exciting and motivating students from various backgrounds.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Administrative experience (supervising students or staff, administering programs);
    • Experience teaching at the college level;
    • Experience with CSWE accreditation standards and processes;
    • Doctoral degree (preferably in social work).

    Position: Nine-month faculty contract with expectations for summer teaching, which will be compensated separately.

    Salary/Rank: Teaching professor (non-tenure track) with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.
