    Job Description

    The University of Notre Dame Operations, Events, and Safety (UOES) division is currently hiring for multiple on-call/temporary positions at Au Bon Pain (ABP) Café in our Campus Dining department. The UOES Division oversees the University's event management, hospitality, and customer service functions, while also supporting student life, academic initiatives, research activities, and annual milestone celebrations.

Whether you're preparing fresh meals, assisting guests at the register, or baking each morning's pastries, you'll play an essential role in delivering excellent service and high-quality food in a clean and welcoming environment.     Prep Cook
    A prep cook plays a vital role in the kitchen by efficiently preparing ingredients, organizing workstations, and assisting with basic cooking tasks to support the culinary team. Their attention to detail and adherence to food safety standards help ensure a smooth, professional, and high-quality kitchen operation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Wash, chop, slice, and portion ingredients such as meats, vegetables, and cheeses for daily sandwich preparation.
    • Prepare basic items like sauces, spreads, and dressings according to house recipes.
    • Stock and organize sandwich prep stations to ensure quick, efficient service during peak hours.
    • Label, date, and properly store all prepped food items to maintain freshness and food safety compliance.
    • Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep areas, coolers, and storage spaces.
    • Follow all food handling and sanitation standards to ensure a safe and clean work environment.

    Sandwich/Drink Maker
    Bring your energy and attention to detail to the food prep line! This role is cross-trained in front-of-house responsibilities and focuses on preparing high-quality menu items while delivering fast, friendly service.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and assemble sandwiches and salads to order
    • Craft coffee drinks including lattes, cappuccinos, and espresso
    • Maintain food freshness and appearance standards
    • Expedite orders, assist guests, and ensure cleanliness of prep areas
    • Support café setup and restocking (coffee, soup, etc.)
    • Train new team members and perform utility/prep tasks as needed

    Cashier/Stock
    As the first and last impression for our guests, you’ll deliver warm welcomes, speedy transactions, and help keep the café stocked and organized.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Process guest transactions with accuracy and efficiency
    • Handle cash and card payments in compliance with company policies
    • Stock baked goods, refrigerated items, and impulse displays
    • Keep work and dining areas clean and inviting
    • Support coffee service and assist in other café areas as needed
    • Report issues promptly and help onboard new team members

    Baker
    Start the day early and fill the café with the smell of fresh-baked goodness! Our bakers are self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating delicious, consistent baked goods.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Prepare and bake bread, pastries, and other items using precise recipes
    • Monitor baking times, oven temps, and product quality
    • Coordinate with management on daily production schedules
    • Receive/store inventory and maintain sanitation standards
    • Merchandize and display baked goods for visual appeal
    • Train new bakers and assist with café setup and general tasks

    Qualifications

    • Capable of managing time effectively with minimal supervision
    • Positive, respectful, and committed to the schedule you create
    • Excellent communication and listening skills
    • Ability to maintain a standing position for extended periods of time (up to 6 hours at a time).
    • Ability to move around the café to attend to the needs of guests
    • Ability to move, lift and handle equipment, supplies and other objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
    • Ability to position self to move items weighing up to 25 pounds from floor to shelves and cabinets above and below counter height
    • Follow food safety procedures for handling, storing, and serving food products
