Perform minor building maintenance and repair requests. Maintain fire field grounds. Support/assist construction crews on building new and/or renovation of training props and/or facilities. May be required to provide assistance to support field-training sessions. May be required to provide assistance to assist other programs such as Industrial, SCBA, Mechanics, and Extinguishers with facilities / class operations. This position will report to the Maintenance Foreman. Minimum Qualifications: * High School Diploma or GED * One year maintenance, building trades, or construction experience to include any combination of the following: Welding, pipefitting, plumbing, concrete, basic electrical, carpentry, heavy equipment operation, and use of hand/power tools. * Valid Class C Driver's License. Preferred Qualifications: * Certificate from an accredited trade school. * Any team leader experience. * Two years maintenance repair, building trades, or construction experience. * Documented completion of any heavy equipment training. * Ability to interpret shop drawings and sketches. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Must be able to safely operate a Skid Steer Loader, Forklift, Material Handler, Man lift, Iron Worker, Riding Mowers and various types of vehicles. Training will be provided prior to the operation of any heavy equipment. * Obtain LPG Installation & DOT Cylinder Filling certifications. Training will be provided prior to conducting related activities. * Must be mechanically inclined. * Ability to follow instructions and communicate in English to perform job responsibilities. * Ability to positively interact with students, vendors, customers and staff. Other Requirements: Ability to move up to 80 lbs, work in adverse conditions, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling heavy objects. Maintain necessary physical abilities to perform required job functions. Shaving of the entire sealing surface area of a respirator will be required for respirator annual fit testing and immediately upon assignment of a task requiring the use of a respirator. The requirement to shave will not be valid reason to request the task be assigned to a coworker. Refusal to shave immediately upon the assignment of a task requiring the use of a respirator will result in disciplinary action. Must comply with OSHA/NFPA standards, ESTI Respirator Protection Program related to the proper wearing of respirators. Maintains a neat and clean appearance. Notifications: * This position is security-sensitive. * This position may require up to 4% travel. * Training will be provided prior to the operation of any heavy equipment. * Normal work hours are Monday Friday, 2:30pm 11:00pm. May be required to work a flex work schedule to accommodate class, meeting or training schedules. * FLSA Exemption: Non-Exempt * Pre-Employment Drug Test: No * Random Drug Test: No Essential Duties: Maintains Training Projects and Classrooms/Grounds 70%: Performs minor welding, fabrication, prefabrication and of pipes, beams, grating, handrails on existing training projects utilizing mig and stick welding. Replaces minor damaged project steel supply piping, fittings and valves project valves. Minor repairs to project valves, solenoids, repack valve stems, gasket materials etc. Replace damaged ceiling tile, light bulbs, ballasts, and worn switches, receptacles on projects classrooms, project shelters and storage areas. Paint interior / exterior items to include piping systems, handrails, fuel tanks, project shelters, classroom / office walls, parking stops/bollards, awnings, etc. To include all required surface preparation such as sanding, sandblasting, priming and sheetrock repair. Clean up training grounds by picking up trash, picking up damaged fire hose, mowing and weed-eating. Repair equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines. Assist with semiannual clean out of projects. Constructs Training Projects 14%: Performs minor welding and fabrication of pipes, beams, handrails etc. utilizing mig and stick welding. Install steel and PVC supply/drain piping for projects fuels/water. Install steel and PVC conduit for electrical / air service to projects. Install electrical switches, lighting, fans and receptacles at projects. Build concrete forms, rebar / mesh installation, pour and finish concrete. Build wooden benches / shelves / racks, framing and installing doors. Minor renovations to classrooms, storage and office areas as required. Class Support 14%: Assist with the preparation, set up and cleanup of facility, projects and classroom for scheduled classes. Prepare projects and classrooms for training by delivering and placing training equipment. Set up of classrooms and lunch areas as required for scheduled classes or meetings. Assist with the restoration of training projects by securing the equipment in designated storage areas. Provides assistance to assist other programs such as Industrial, SCBA, Mechanics, and Extinguishers with facilities / class operations. Which may include valving burn projects, refilling SCBA / Extinguishers or providing assistance to the mechanic shop upon request. Procurement 2%: Purchase supplies / equipment / materials in accordance with TAMUS / TEEX / ESTI regulations. Provides all required purchasing receiving documentation. Will make supplies / material runs to local vendors. Other Specific Tasks: Comply with work schedule Monday-Friday 8 hour days, 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., 40 hour week unless holiday or class schedule dictates otherwise at which time would be expected to work hours as directed by supervisor. May occasionally be required work beyond an 8-hour workday. May be required to work a flex work schedule to accommodate class, meeting or training schedules. Maintains a clean and neat appearance. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specified uniforms as required. Must show safety awareness and demonstrate safe working habits/practices. Attends weekly scheduled safety meetings. Completes position specific training and obtains position specific licenses / certifications within the assigned timeframe.
