In coordination with the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications, the position is also responsible for driving the institutions public relations efforts, proactively identifying strategic opportunities to generate local, state and national media coverage to elevate the institutions brand. Required Education and Experience: * Bachelors degree or any equivalent combination of training and experience in journalism, public relations, communication, marketing or related field * Minimum of three years of experience in communications, media relations, public relations, marketing or related field Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database programs, working knowledge of AP style * Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others * Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others * Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Working knowledge of content management systems (WordPress), email marketing platforms (MailChimp) and media management software (Cision or TrendKite) Responsibilities: * Advances the Texas A&M Health Science Center brand through development and editing of written content for use across a number of platforms, to include: digital newsrooms, web, print publications, web, electronic newsletters and other marketing collateral. * Actively tracks trending and breaking news for potential news generation opportunities aimed at increasing the visibility of the institution at a local, state and national level. Participates in proactive media relations efforts through creative pitch writing, utilizing faculty experts. Works closely with the Executive Director of Marketing & Communications to manage media requests and serves as on-site media representative when necessary. Tracks corresponding coverage and turns analytics into meaningful insights. Assists in updating media contact database on a regular basis. * Serves as vital member on the Office of Marketing & Communications production team. Delivers story ideas and content concepts to weekly production meetings in support of advancing high-impact, engaging material that covers a wide range of health-related subject matters, and translates into clear, relatable, shareable media. Serves as lead writer for institutional and reactive newsfollowing AP and institutional style preferences. * Serves as departmental project manager for institutional priorities, initiatives and large-scale projects as needed. * Manages relationships across the institution to enhance identification of viable story topics stemming from faculty, college communications contacts, etc., and inspired by trending topics. Updates institutions expert database based upon positive interactions with faculty contacts. * Assists Executive Director of Marketing & Communications and Events Manager with planning and execution of media events, to include press conferences. * Performs other duties as assigned.
