The Scholarly Communication Librarian provides leadership and support in the growth and maintenance of scholarly communication services at Bell Library. The librarian cultivates partnerships within the library and across campus to promote these services and provide outreach and education in areas of scholarly communication. The librarian stays current with emerging technologies and research practices relevant to scholarly communication and participates in strategic planning for scholarly communication initiatives to further library and university goals. The librarian also serves as a liaison to academic units, providing information literacy instruction, research consultation, and collection development support, and assists with reference service. As with all professional librarian positions at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, the Scholarly Communication Librarian will participate in professional and scholarly activity and will serve on library and university committees. Librarians at TAMU-CC have non-tenure-track faculty status. The Mary and Jeff Bell Library provides resources and services to assist users with their research and information needs. Over ½ million items are listed in Portal, the online catalog, and many more items are accessible through our electronic resources. Over 280 online databases and 64,000 electronic journals contain scholarly material to assist students in completing research projects or assignments. The Library provides both in-person and virtual reference service, research skills and information literacy instruction, interlibrary loan, a makerspace (in development), and over 100 computers for research and coursework. Special Collections and Archives houses a wealth of resources focusing on Corpus Christi, the Coastal Bend, and South Texas. Duties * Provides outreach and education regarding author rights, intellectual property, open access, alternative publishing models, researcher profiles, self-archiving and other issues relevant to scholarly communication. * Creates and maintains online content to support scholarly communication activities. * Works in close consultation and cooperation with campus units on projects and initiatives related to scholarly communication. * Works with the Digital Collections Librarian to grow scholarly digital collections at the Bell Library, to include the administration of repository communities and collections related to faculty and student scholarship. * Liaises with campus units to solicit, archive, and promote use of scholarly content in the TAMU-CC Repository. * Stays current on the open repository landscape, and advises on repository policies. * Stays informed of and keeps the TAMU-CC community up to date on national and international trends in intellectual property rights and academic publishing. * Acts as Copyright Officer for the campus and provides consultation and instruction to faculty, staff, and students using copyrighted works. * Provides reference services in person, via phone, and through various online channels. * Serves as a subject liaison and participates in subject area collection development and departmental liaison work, including providing subject specific information literacy classes, consulting with students, maintaining subject guides, and exploring opportunities for online point-of-need tutorials on subject area matter. * Assists with first year instruction, particularly in (but not limited to) liaison area cohorts. * Participates in research and scholarly/creative activities and professional development, and serves on library, university, and/or professional committees. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: * Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program. Current MLS students graduating on or before December 2018 will be considered. * Two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably in an academic library environment. * Knowledge of open access, the research process, current issues in scholarly communication and the role of libraries and librarians in supporting scholarly practices; * Evidence of leadership, entrepreneurship, and initiative; * Evidence of creativity, particularly in developing products and services such as publications, training materials, workshops, and other tools relevant to scholarly communications, copyright, and fair use; * Strong oral and written communication skills, including proven ability to prepare and present quality written and oral reports and presentations; * Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills; * Ability to adjust priorities, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick, effective decisions; * Highly-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with library colleagues, faculty, staff and students; * Evidence of a deeply-held commitment to customer service. Preferred Qualifications: * Demonstrated proficiency with digital content management or repository systems, rights management and academic publishing practices; * Familiarity with one or more major descriptive metadata standards (Dublin Core, MODS, METS, or others); * Experience with working at a reference desk and assisting users with research-related questions; * Experience with information literacy instruction; * Demonstrated contribution to the profession, including scholarly publications and/or presentations and * service to professional organizations.
