Description The Student Development Specialist II, under supervision,
serves as the advisor responsible for a student-driven committee
providing entertainment programming (music concerts, comedy concerts,
etc.) that targets Texas A&M University students. The SDS II provides
professional and specialized skills for planning, developing,
implementing, and managing student development programs and activities.
This position also serves as the advisor for one additional MSC student
committee (tbd). Occasional nights and weekends are required. Required
Education and Experience: * Bachelors degree or equivalent combination
of education and experience. * One year of experience in student affairs
work or related specialty. Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and
Abilities: * Must be able to communicate with a broad range of people,
both verbally and in writing. * Ability to use word processing,
spreadsheet and database programs. * Ability to multi-task and work
cooperatively with others. * Basic familiarity with current social
media. Other Requirements or Other Factors: * Must be able to
communicate effectively with and motivate a broad range of people,
conceptualize the program production/student development processes and
integrate them in fulfillment of the goals of the MSC, be a creative
problem solver dedicated to the institution and the college union
concept, act as a positive role model and demonstrate good judgment, and
have sufficient energy level to sustain long hours required of job.
Preferred Education and Experience: * Master's degree in Student
Affairs, counseling, or related field * Significant experience in
concert management with particular skills in concert budget management
and attention to detail. Experience in working with student committees
in a program production setting. Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills,
and Abilities: * Budgeting, fundraising, organizational skills,
volunteer training and management, student development theory and
practice; understanding and appreciation of contract negotiation and
programming management. * Knowledge of the MSC and TAMU surrounding
community, relationship with community organizations. Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the supervisor advises MSC Town Hall Committee,
responsible for entertainment programming that primarily targets Texas
A&M University students. Ensures the programs and activities produced in
the name of the Memorial Student Center meet the mission of the
organization and contribute to the role and scope of the University and
reflect positively on its image. * Utilizes educational knowledge,
professional and specialized skills to plan, implement, manage and
assess student development programs, activities and/or services. Through
these programs, the advisor teaches, prepares and assists students in
their development of committee goals and the creation, administration
and evaluation of various student programs and activities which
contribute to the learning environment and the overall quality of
student life. * Educates students on how to fulfill their
responsibilities in the following areas: program conceptualization,
promotion, production, evaluation, personnel selection, training,
motivation, management, fiscal accountability, budget planning,
marketing research, fundraising, interpersonal and leadership skill
development, goal setting, and decision making. * Assists the committee
executive team in building relationships and identifying collaborative
opportunities within the MSC and with outside entertainment-related
organizations and other student organizations. * Builds and maintains
relationships with former MSC Town Hall members, the Association of
Former Students, academic departments on campus, and other individuals
and constituencies relevant to the committee mission and purpose. *
Meets routinely with members, meeting weekly with the chair and
executive members. Negotiates, develops and oversees the execution of
contracts with artists, facilities, services and other aspects of the
production of events. Works with his/her support staff and students to
coordinate performer(s) arrival and departure as well as any special
needs requested by contract. * Reviews all marketing and advertising
plans. * Oversees events and seek to assure the safety and welfare of
the participants. * Attends executive and general committee retreats
each semester. * Assists committees in developing new programming areas.
- Primary liaison to University Center Special Events and Reed Arena
staff relative to Town Hall programs. * Oversees budget development and
daily expenditures. * Advises students in relation to career choice,
academic problems, and interpersonal skill development. * Instructs
students as to university and MSC policies and procedures. * Assists
students in their individual growth through observation, feedback, and
the application of student development theory. * Serves as a role model,
mentor, and source of support. * Attends meetings of the Program
Approval Team and Committee Advancement Team on Monday evenings as
necessary. * Under the direction of the supervisor, the advisor to
committee ensures the programs and activities produced in the name of
the Memorial Student Center, meet the mission of the organization and
contribute to the role and scope of the University and reflect
positively on its image. * Utilizes their educational knowledge,
professional, and specialized skills to plan, develop, implement, and
manage student development programs, activities, and/or services, that
teach, prepare, and assist students in their development and committee
goals of creating, administering, and evaluating various student
programs and activities, which contribute to the learning environment
and the overall quality of student life. * Educates students, under the

execution of contracts with speakers, facilities, services, and other
aspects in production of events. The advisor should work with her or his
support staff and students to coordinate guest(s) arrival and departure
as well as any special needs requested via the contract. * Reviews all
marketing and advertising plans. * Attends meetings of the Program
Approval Team and Committee Advancement Team on Monday evenings as
necessary. * Contributes to MSC organizational meetings including, but
not limited to, advisors meetings, advisors retreats, and all-staff
meetings, as well as division staff meetings. * Submits monthly reports,
year-end evaluations, and maintain comprehensive files and records. *
Learns, understands, teaches, and utilizes the departments fund
accounting software and events management systems to track and maintain
committee expenditures and programs. * Liaisons with appropriate
university staff and serves on committees as needed. * Specifically
serves as departmental representative on one Division of Student Affairs
committee. * Adheres to University policy and procedures. * May attend
or present at local/regional conferences and campus student organization
meetings. * May be called upon to serve on various Division of Student
Affairs programs and/or University task forces that relate to issues
concerning students. * Pursues opportunities for professional growth and
development that will further enhance personal and professional skills
related to this position. * Performs other duties as assigned.
