Responsible for articulating A&M-SAs message to prospective students and their families in a variety of public setting; cooperates with other staff members in the broad context of functional office operations and planning; and serve as the lead in developing recruitment programs and collaborative partnerships in a designated regional area. This position will be based in Houston. Extensive travel required. Evening and weekend hours required. This is a regional position; majority of work to be performed offsite/away from campus. Territory Management * Represents the university and its programs to the general public to increase community awareness at recruitment events, including high school and community college visits, college fairs, visits to schools and community-based organizations, receptions, information sessions, and presentations. * Assists in data analysis when planning trips to assigned territory/geo-markets. * Maintains and expands prospective student recruitment through lead generation, prospect guidance, and matriculation assistance. * Researches prospective student history, following through on leads, and maintaining records on assigned recruiting territory * Builds and cultivates key relationships and partnerships with high school counselors, middle school communities, community-based organizations, community college personnel, and alumni. * Performs detailed and personalized outreach to prospective students such as: phone calling, emailing, and other communications as needed. * Attends staff development programs and on-campus events. * Recruits and engages alumni/parents within volunteer program to increase coverage in key recruitment territories. * Participates in transfer admission and recruitment activities as needed. Admissions Counseling * Counsels prospective undergraduate applicants and their families regarding A&M-SA academic programs, extracurricular opportunities, admissions requirements and procedures. This interaction may include phone, in-person, or written contacts. In-person contacts may include group presentations in addition to individual appointments. * In all counseling situations, employee must be thoroughly knowledgeable about A&M-SA academic and extracurricular opportunities, and clearly articulate advantages of the A&M-SA undergraduate experience. Further, the employee must be accurate in describing admissions policies, criteria and procedures. * Individual must be responsive to prospective students concerns and needs by providing excellent customer service. * An ability to complete timely review of applications from an assigned set of high schools and assists others as needed. File review activities include monitoring files for completeness and fielding questions from applicants. Travel * Admissions Counselors are expected to travel extensively within assigned recruitment territories. Evening and weekend hours will be required. Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree required, (Masters preferred) * Three years of related experience (in admissions/recruitment/financial aid) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: * Must be self-motivated with the ability to remain productive and effective while working independently with little to no supervision. * Proficiency in admissions recruiting/advising and financial aid * Knowledge of student information systems (Banner preferred) and customer relationship management tools (Target X or slate preferred) * General knowledge of graduate and international admissions policies and procedures * Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation skills.
