Required Education and Experience: * Earned PhD in experimental particle physics or a related field * No experience needed beyond related experience gained during completion of PhD requirements Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Demonstrated skills in particle physics data analysis at a major experiment, including knowledge of statistical techniques and methods of data analysis, particle reconstruction and identification techniques, computer simulations and distributed data access techniques, and ability to contribute to the operations of large particle physics experiments; ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others Other Requirements or Other Factors * Ability to travel, including internationally, up to 15% of the time; based on mutual agreement, it may be agreed to post this position initially at CERN near Geneva, Switzerland, or the LHC Physics Center at Fermi National Accelerator Lab near Chicago, Illinois. Preferred Education and Experience: * Earned PhD in experimental particle physics Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Experience developing algorithms, software, firmware, electronics, or hardware for future detectors and detector sub-systems. Preferred Other Factors * Based on mutual agreement, this position can have periods of time when the holder of this position to be stationed at the experiment location of CERN, near Geneva, Switzerland. Flexibility by the applicants on the location where the position is stationed and openness to relocating the position for extended periods of time is preferred. Responsibilities: * Conduct activities related to physics analysis dedicated to searches for evidence of new physics in the Higgs sector, including analysis development, software code development, work on optimization and statistical interpretation of the results, reporting at appropriate internal and external meetings, collaboration with other participants, both internal and external to TAMU, documentation of the results using approved CMS formats for internal and external documentation, preparing and documenting responses to internal and external reviews, preparing scientific publications in journals, presentation of the results at workshops and conferences, coordination of activities with other members of the TAMU group, including assistance in mentoring and guiding graduate students and other junior members of the group. * Work on detector upgrade R&D activities focusing on the areas related to the CMS muon detector and muon Level-1 trigger system upgrades, including the elements of the system responsible for correlating track trigger information with muon trigger data. These activities include algorithm development, validation of the new algorithms with the simulation, development and evaluation of the hardware, development and validation of algorithms in firmware, work on developing hardware demonstrator, as well as development of control software and firmware, evaluation of performance, presentation of regular progress updates at appropriate internal and external meetings, participation in reviews, preparing scientific publications in journals, coordination of activities with other members of the TAMU group, including assistance in mentoring and guiding graduate students and other junior members of the group. * Participation in activities related to CMS detector operations, which includes work on one or more of the main operations related activities that the Texas A&M group is involved in: track-based alignment of the CMS muon system, jet energy calibrations, support of the operations of the Optical Trigger Motherboard system for the CSC, support of the Optohybrid and backend systems for the GE1/1 detector. In addition, participation in regular data taking shifts and other service responsibilities as required of the members of the CMS collaboration. * Perform other duties, as assigned.
