    Academic Program Specialist Texas Christian University 69 reviews - Fort Worth, TX 76129 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: The Academic Program Specialist is responsible for serving as a primary advising contact for current students, disseminating information regarding TCU Pre-Health Institute activities and programs to students, parents, alumni and the general public, and assisting with maintaining and developing clinical opportunities for current students. Duties and Essential Job Functions: Assists with student advising throughout the academic year. This includes participation in "official" academic advising (two weeks in October and March) as well as walk-in advising hours and individual appointment hours throughout the semester. Releases advising holds as necessary to allow students to enroll. Assists with advising and orientation tasks during freshman and transfer orientation in January, June and August. Attends the Pre-Health breakout sessions, assists with Pre-Health Honor Society (AED) membership enrollment and AED fundraising/sales, and advising freshmen in their initial selection of classes. Maintains student and alumni data and ensures accuracy of records. Serves as a liaison between the public and the TCU Pre-health Professions Institute. Responds by phone, email, social media and snail mail to prospective and current students who request information about TCU undergraduate and post-baccalaureate programs. Answers questions and gives advice to current students about the program, professional schools, and other health-related programs. Provides oversight to the clinical observation program to ensure students are fulfilling requirements. Collects and maintains documents from all program participants. Assists in maintaining and expanding clinical opportunities for Pre-Health students. Develops and maintains TCU Pre-Health presence on various social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. Expands outreach and communication to students, parents, and alumni. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position Requirements: Required Education and Experience: * Bachelors' degree or equivalent in experience. Preferred Education and Experience: * 2 years of program management experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: * Knowledge of customer services techniques. * Knowledge of research techniques. * Knowledge of interpersonal communication techniques. * Knowledge of department specific computer software. * Knowledge of curriculum and degree requirements. * Knowledge of university programs. * Skill in some or all components of Microsoft Office. * Ability to balance multiple projects simultaneously. * Ability to assume administrative functions and make independent decisions regarding daily activities. * Ability to interact with individuals from various levels of the organization and strong organizational skill. Physical Requirements (With or Without Accommodations): * Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. * Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. * Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. * Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. * Lifting and moving objects and equipment up to 10 lbs. Work Environment: * Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours. * There are no harmful environmental conditions present for this job. * The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
