    Intern - Technical Services - Ryerson and Burnham Libraries (Fall 2018) The Art Institute of Chicago 57 reviews - Chicago, IL Part-time, Internship Position Summary Internships are available in various units of the Libraries. Projects can be designed to fit practicum or internship requirements for MLS and other academic or professional programs providing field experience. Upper-level undergraduates, graduate students, or students in professional programs interested in pursuing careers in libraries, visual resource collections, or archival collections are encouraged to apply for internships. Projects completed during an internship will vary depending on the department within the Libraries the intern is placed. INTERNSHIP OUTCOMES: * Greater understanding of the functions of the technical services department of the Libraries, including acquisitions, cataloging, serials maintenance, and physical processing * Hands on experience with resource management functions in the Libraries Integrated Library System (Ex Libris Alma) * Mentor relationships with field practitioners DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Varies depending on the focus of the internship, but may include: * Unpacking, organizing, and receiving purchased books from various vendors * Searching gifts for duplicates in the catalog * Processing ephemeral material for the artist files * Copy cataloging exhibition catalogs and other art books * Improving findability of print and electronic resource records * Updating and/or creating Name Authority Records for the catalog * Assigning call numbers and/or relabeling books using the Library of Congress Classification System * Completing various bibliographic and stack maintenance projects Qualifications * Upper-level undergraduate, graduate students, or recent graduates (within one year of graduation) * Commitment to excellence * Good communication and interpersonal skills * Good organizational skills

    • Knowledge of art or architecture history * Previous library experience (preferred) APPLICATION: A resume and cover letter are required for the application.
