As part of the Basic Training School, participants will acquire a knowledge of and skill in the use of firearms, criminal investigation equipment, photographic equipment, radio equipment, alarm systems, restraining devices, keys and locks and emergency motor vehicles. Completes homework assignments. Participates in the physical training program, firearms training, defensive tactics program and practical problems. Actively participates in classroom discussions and group projects. Complies with established rules and regulations governing The Univ. of Texas System Police Academy or the regional academy. Complies with assignments and instructions given by the Director of Police, The Univ. of Texas System or by any member of any Academy staff. Complies with policies of respective component institution police departments relating to his/her status and attendance at the Academy. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) Adheres to rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Regents of The Univ. of Texas System. Will be required to either attend UT System Academy in Austin, Texas or the AACOG Academy in San Antonio. If the cadet attends the AACOG academy they will be required to later attend a 4 week lateral academy in Austin, Texas. Room and board paid by the department.
