    POSITION TITLE: Academic Coordinator for Upward Bound Math Science POSITION #: TBD POSITION STATUS: Full-Time FLSA STATUS: Exempt REPORTS TO: Upward Bound Math Science Director SUPERVISES: Part-Time Instructors, Part-Time Tutors, Part-Time Site Coordinators POSITION SUMMARY: The Academic Coordinator (AC) is a critical role in the TRiO Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) Program at Trinidad State Junior College (TSJC) in Trinidad, Colorado. UBMS is a component of the federal TRIO Program which assists low-income, first- generation, 9th through 12th grade students through graduation from high school, and matriculation into post-secondary education. The Academic Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Project Director (PD) in achieving overall success of the UBMS Program at TSJC. This includes, but is not limited to, managing part-time tutors, site-coordinators instructors, and resident advisors during the six-week summer program and the academic year. The AC will also assist with the development of college preparatory science, math, English, foreign language, and elective curricula. Other duties include coordinating field trips, academic Saturday classes, and collaboration with the PD and key personnel in the target high schools to identify and recruit potential students. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain relationships with guidance counselors, students, and parents to maximize participation, performance, and address other concerns such as interpreting and explaining rules and regulations to stakeholders, Assist with the recruitment, selection and retention of 86 students, communicate expectations, and considerations of the UBMS Program, Develop Individual Learning Pathways (ILPs) for each student and assist the PD in scheduling the classes for academic year support and the six-week summer program, Manage part-time instructors, Resident Advisors, and Site Coordinators, Must be able to interpret standardized test data, and develop methods to improve scores (ICAP, NWEA, ACCUPLACER, SAT, ACT, etc.), Assist in the understanding of fundamentals for financial literacy, study habits, college Preparedness, and career exploration, Design extracurricular activities that integrate academic skills for the students during the academic year and six-week summer program, Generate and implement inductive methods for improving academic performance, Develop and Maintain relationships with grant staff, college staff, faculty, and community stakeholders to meet grant, and institutional objectives, Assume additional duties and responsibilities as they arise. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelors degree in a science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) or education related discipline. Demonstrated respect for all individuals and a positive attitude towards disadvantaged youth and their capacity to succeed in postsecondary studies, especially math and science. Experience in, or detailed contextual knowledge of identifying and serving the needs of low income and first-generation students. Travel, evening, and weekend hours are a requirement of this position. One year of experience advising, teaching or combined teaching/tutoring math and science at the secondary or post-secondary school level. Ability to drive students during program activities. Preferred Qualifications Three years of experience advising, teaching or combined teaching/tutoring math and science at the secondary or post-secondary school level. Familiar with or able to learn quickly & easily, programming languages and structures, Matlab/Simulink, 3D parametric CAD software such as Solidworks, and 3D printing. Proficiency in Spanish (primarily verbal). Training in, or working knowledge of leadership paradigms such as 4L, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, Covey Leadership, etc. Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those facing the Trio/UBMS mission demographic. Knowledge of the TRiO Upward Bound mission, regulations, and legislation. Special Requirements : The successful candidate must be willing and able to travel when necessary. The successful candidate must submit to and successfully complete a post-offer, pre- employment background check as a condition of hire. SALARY: Annual salary is $35,200 dependent upon education and experience. Appointment is based on a full-time, 12-month position.
