The Office of Admissions at UC San Diego is a fast-paced, deadline-driven, high-demand office, which receives in excess of 116,000 applications annually and is engaged in a highly selective admissions process each year. The External Reader is responsible for reviewing freshmen applications, and should expect to spend a minimum of 15-20 hours a week reviewing applications. The position requires attention to detail, flexibility, and the ability to collaborate and work in teams. External Readers independently review domestic applications for admission at the freshman level, and a select number of external readers with educational experience abroad will review international applications at the freshman level. The External Reader uses professional judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of educational processes that is gained through training sessions led by the Office of Admissions, including knowledge of coursework from domestic institutions and international educational systems as well as assessment of high school experiences, in evaluating an applicant for admission. External Readers are expected to perform with a high level of integrity and professionalism as a representative of UC San Diego and the University of California among many constituencies, often times reviewing and interpreting complicated and/or sensitive information. Training Dates: Must be available to attend one of the following in-person training sessions at your own expense from 8:00 AM 4:30 PM at UC San Diego: * Thursday, November 1 * Saturday, November 3 * Wednesday, November 7 Second mandatory training date to be determined after selection of readers.
