    Head Start Center Administration Intern Posting expires on 12/13/2018 Employer: Community Action Partnership of Ramsey & Washington Counties Located in: Ramsey & Washington Counties, Minnesota Degree Required: Other VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION The mission of Community Action is to reduce poverty and its impacts on people in Ramsey and Washington counties. Community Action serves the community with a variety of programs including Energy Assistance, Energy Conservation, Head Start, Early Head Start, Civic and Community Engagement Programs. Title: Head Start Classroom Helper Purpose: Community Action Head Start is committed to providing low-income families in our community with high quality education for children ages 3-5. Help our Head Start teachers and classroom staff to make learning and attending school a fun and rewarding activity for children. Classes are held weekday daytime hours. Supervisor: Head Start - Center Education Coordinator Tasks and Responsibilities: Assist classroom teachers to support student activities. This may include reading stories, assisting children with projects, chaperoning field trips, helping with Family Fun events, teaching basic hygiene skills such as tooth brushing and hand washing. Eat family-style with the children if volunteering during meal-time. Turn in a timesheet monthly. Qualifications: Show interest in and enjoy working with young children; Able to physically respond to the demands of active 3-5 year old children; Must be comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds; Ability to work as a member of a team; Capable of lifting 20 lbs (50 lbs desired); Ability to speak English; Pass a criminal background check and Age 18+; Bilingual in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Karen (desired, not required) Time Commitment: All volunteers must be able to assist at least once per week for a minimum of 4 weeks. Centers are open weekdays: 8am-11:30am; 1pm-4:30pm. A few Centers offer an 11:30am1pm shift. Specific hours must be arranged in advance with the supervisor. Most shifts occur MondayThursday during the regular school-year (September thru May). Location: There are several Head Start locations in St Paul and one in New Brighton. Your assignment based upon your availability and site need.
