Candidate will be placed with a primary department to offer experience in tutoring, youth development, lesson planning, data entry, and behind the scenes non-profit work. -Job Responsibilities -1. Individualized Student Support- Interns will provide individualized student support by one-on-one and small group tutoring during programming hours. Interns will be assigned a primary educational program where they will focus most of their time providing direct student support. However, because all programs value students first, occasionally interns may be asked to participate in other educational programming. Additionally, interns will be expected to attend supplementary trainings to build youth development skills and -competency. 2. Store Tasks- Greet customers, students, staff, and community partners in the storefront King Carls Emporium. Provides knowledgeable and helpful service to families and patrons seeking information about our programs and services. Learn how to best refer individuals seeking further information. Support store staff organize community and 826 materials to increase volunteer engagement and awareness for store customers. Provide guidance and support to 826 guest by welcoming them in, calling their contact (especially for interns, volunteers during their first shift, and donors). Support customers finding products, complete sales of product including student publications. Maintain and processes inventory: receive new products, keep shelves stocked, help with inventory counts.Keep store clean and organized. Report any problems with store facilities, equipment, or customer service issue to Store Manager. 3. Programmatic Administration Support- Interns will assist our staff with administrative program management tasks, including but not limited to: data entry, photocopying, transcription, and coordinating volunteer schedules. Interns will review and edit youth work in preparation of student publications. Interns may be asked to attend and assist in special events (826 Day, 100 club etc.) Prior interns have had the opportunity to create, support, or lead their own writing workshops; visit San Francisco classrooms to mentor aspiring writers; attend a book release parties; design books and other student publication projects; support other new tutors or soon to be college students. The -student will spend 65/35 time between programs and the store. -Minimum Qualifications - Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for the duration of the semester Commitment to our mission of supporting diverse youth ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Experience with kids in a professional setting is a plus Editing/proofreading experience preferred Interns must be able to attend a mandatory Intern Training & Orientation Educational Programming and Publishing Interns and Student Publishing and Production Interns must be able to pass a mandatory background check within 10 days of the commencement of the internship in order to provide direct service with students. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
