Position Details Position Information Title Medical Scribe (Part Time) (Multiple Hires) (Extended Temporary Employment) (Phoenix, AZ) Department COM Phx Internal Medicine (0669) Location Greater Phoenix Area Position Summary The University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix is currently seeking Medical Scribe candidates for their Primary Care Medical Scribe program who would like to gain valuable experience working one-on-one with physicians in a dynamic, academic, primary care setting. This paid position is perfect for a student seeking a career in healthcare, who would like to gain more experience and exposure in a clinical setting before starting professional school, while also working to improve the healthcare delivery system. Scribing is an incredible experience, teaching you an extensive base of medical knowledge and on-the-job exposure in a clinical setting. This position is ideal for pre-medical students & alumni looking for experience prior to medical school and those that plan to work in the medical field. Dont have scribing experience? No problem. Scribing experience preferred but not required as all qualified applicants undergo training for the medical scribe role. Working as a Medical Scribe offers: * Paid position working one-on-one with physicians through a first of its kind medical scribe program. * Exposure to real patients and patient care in a primary care, academic clinical setting. * Paid training and mentorship in medicine. * Be a part of medical scribe research with the opportunity to help further develop this novel program. Duties & Responsibilities * Assists the physician in navigating the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and locates information for review (i.e., previous notes, reports, test results, and laboratory results). * Accompanies the physician upon patient interview and examination as (silent) observer. * Documents the physicians dictated patient history, including history of present illness, review of systems, past medical and surgical history, family and social histories, medications, and allergies. * Documents physical examination findings and procedures as performed during the encounter. * Documents the results of laboratory and radiographic studies as dictated by the physician. * Ensures the physician reviews all documentation completed by the scribe when the patient encounter has concluded. This includes making any necessary amendments and signing the chart. The physician is ultimately responsible for documentation of the patients encounter. * Assists with patient chart maintenance and updates as dictated by the physician in addition to encounter related documentation, including the completion of additional patient care tasks as needed. * Participates in and completes required training, surveys, forms, and other program related activities. * Learns and comprehends required medical terminology. * Other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities * Knowledge of English grammar, spelling and medical terminology. * Ability to effectively communicate. * Ability to understand and commitment to appropriate protection of confidential patient information. Minimum Qualifications * High school diploma required. * Minimum typing speed of 60 WPM. Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications Two years of typing experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Preferred Qualifications * College degree or current enrollment in a 2 or 4-year degree program. * Previous experience as a medical scribe. * Demonstrated ability to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing. * Strong interpersonal & organizational skills. * Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, including MS email, Excel, and Word.
