    The Assistant Professor in the Reiman School of Finance is expected to teach six core courses throughout the academic year, which may include fall, winter and spring quarters, in the area of corporate finance, and possibly financial modeling. Teaching responsibilities may include both undergraduate and graduate level courses using traditional, hybrid, and online delivery methods. Teaching responsibilities may involve day, night, and weekend classes. Maintenance of AACSB academic qualifications (Scholarly Academic) is required.

     

    Faculty members are expected to participate in School and College faculty meetings, curriculum development, assurance of learning and the advising of students.

     

    Position Summary

    The Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Reiman School of Finance starting fall 2018. The Reiman School of Finance is an academic unit of the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver in Colorado. DU is the oldest independent university in the Rocky Mountain region, with approximately 11,800 students in undergraduate and graduate programs. DU is classified as a Doctoral/Research University with high research activity. The Daniels College of Business is the one of the largest colleges within the University, with 1,700 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.     Essential Functions

    • Teaching
      • The Assistant Professor will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses. The usual teaching load for tenured/tenure track faculty members is six (four credit hour) courses. Courses taught will include the area of corporate finance, and possibly financial modeling.
      • Summer research support and two course releases for research activity are granted for two years to an Assistant Professor. Course releases and stipends/summer support for research activity beyond the first two years as an Assistant Professor are subject to a competitive peer review process open to all faculty members. Summer teaching is optional and is subject to negotiation with the Director of the School. It is compensated separately.
    • Research, Scholarship, or Creative Work
      • The individual who fills this position will demonstrate potential for conducting high-quality research in corporate finance.
      • The Assistant Professor will conduct primarily discipline-based research and focus on publishing in target and other high-quality academic journals.
    • Service
      • The individual who fills this position will be expected to participate in the academic life of the Reiman School of Finance and Daniels College faculty meetings, assurance of learning, curriculum development, and the advising of students.
      • A good deal of involvement with students is expected of all faculty members in the Reiman School of Finance.
      • Beyond the academic life of the College, the Assistant Professor will typically engage in limited service activities unless they tie specifically to one’s research agenda.

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Doctorate in Finance. ABD will be considered, but must be completed no later than March 31 of the first year with Daniels. Candidate will hold the title of instructor until completion of the doctoral degree.
    • Maintenance of appropriate faculty qualifications (Scholarly Academic) under AACSB Standards is required.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives to effectively engage diverse populations and learning styles.
    • Demonstrated commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds.

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • PhD in Finance from an AACSB accredited school.
    • Teaching experience in the areas of corporate finance and financial modeling.
    • Prior business/industry experience working in corporate finance and/or investment banking.
    • Demonstrated high-quality research in the areas of corporate finance, international corporate finance, entrepreneurial finance, and/or financial modeling.
    • Previous experience or demonstrated ability to teach in a traditional setting, online, and/or in hybrid courses.

     

    Work Schedule

    May include, day, night and weekends.
