The Graphic Designer is also responsible for helping maintain museum branding throughout print, media, exhibit design and marketing pieces including: reports, publications, brochures, invites, fliers, ads, panels, signage and more. This position requires creativity, up-to-date software knowledge, choosing the appropriate media and style to meet the project main objectives. The Graphic Designer reports to the Museum Art/Creative Director and work with the rest of the graphics department to best serve all Museum departments and the Museum as a whole. Job Responsibilities Meets with the Museum Art/Creative Director and clients to collaborate on conceptualization, define the main purpose of a piece and get scope of projects. Helps the Museum Art/Creative Director and Graphic Designer I/II to ensure quality and branding consistency are achieved across all communications and museum departments. Collaborates with other staff communicators and colleagues in other departments on specific museum projects. Contributes on the selection of color palettes, images, illustrations, photography, typeface and other essential layout elements when designing a project. Helps determinate key messages, size and arrangement of design elements. Designs logos for events, exhibits and programs, as well as graphics and illustrations that convey specific messages. Develops marketing material: print & web, signage and environmental graphics. Collaborates and develop components, print and media for temporary and permanent museum exhibits. Presents initial drafts and/or design proposals to the Museum Art/Creative Director and then to the internal clients for initial review and approval. Incorporates revisions and feedback sent by the Museum Art/Creative Director and internal clients into any final designs. Responsible for working closely with the Museum Art/Creative Director, Graphic Designer I/II on in-house production and/or vendors on outsource production, such as file preparation, selection of media, review of final designs and approval before printing or publishing. Advertised Salary: Starting salary $40,000, negotiable with education and experience. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design or an appropriate area of specialization and at least three years of professional experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Strong skills in Mac platform. Experienced in design, layout and photo-editing software: Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat Pro). General skills in Microsoft Office. Experience working in a team atmosphere and able to understand and convey museum key messages throughout all communications and exhibits. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Proven success in managing multiple design projects, meeting deadlines, adapting quickly to priorities and still maintaining accuracy and great attention to detail. Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills. Exceptional design skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to take feedback and implement it on final designs. Strong conceptual and analytical skills which will help you communicate key messages to specific museum audience. Ability to analyze graphic and scientific/technical information needed to create interpretive illustrations. Strong knowledge, understanding and working experience of print and media production.
