    Principal Gifts Research Analyst Job no: 507652 Work type: Staff Full-Time Location: Main Campus (Gainesville, FL) Categories: Administrative/Professional, Advancement, Information Systems/Technology Department:50010000 - AD-VP ADVANCEMENT Classification Title: Data Management Analyst I Job Description: Under the direction of the Associate Director of Principal Gifts, the Principal Gifts Research Analyst is an integral member of the Principal Gifts team with overall responsibilities for the research and evaluation of new and current donor prospects for cultivation and solicitation of principal gifts, defined by the University of Florida as $5M+. Working closely with Advancement staff in prospect management, development information services, and data analytics, the Principal Gifts Researcher will analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources to report on prospects that have the propensity and ability to support transformational gifts initiatives and campaigns. This specialized research and analysis facilitates the cultivation and solicitation of top prospects by the University president and provost, the VP for University of Florida Advancement, the AVP for Principal Gifts and other senior development staff in the Foundation, as well as deans, unit directors and other University leaders. Prospect Research, Analysis and Writing * Draft reports and briefs as requested for the offices of the President, VP for Advancement and Principal Gifts for leadership events, donor calls, principal gift strategy meetings and cultivation activities. * Provide high-level research on individuals, corporations and foundations using a wide variety of online database services, Internet websites, library and government sources and other resources for public information such as Lexis/Nexis? for Development Professionals, WealthEngine, DonorScape, DonorWatch, iWave Pro, NOZA, Foundation Search, etc., to locate and compile business, philanthropic and biographic information. * Analyze and synthesize accumulated information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic interests, giving propensity and connections to UF; collaborate with development staff when necessary to target the research and maximize the results. * Assist with the creation and maintenance of new and current prospect profiles including reports on prospects currently rated at $5M+, or with identified capacity for future $5M+ gifts. * Manage complex research requests as pertains to new campaign and/or special initiatives in a timely manner. Principal Gift Prospect Identification and Tracking * Act as a strategic prospect strategy analyst for the Principal Gifts office to assist the development team in prospect strategy development, strengthening portfolios and working to significantly increase the number of prospects under management. * Use Cognos, PLSQL and Advizor to generate lists for travel, events, prospect identification/qualification and data analysis, and to produce reports for leadership that track anticipated commitments, campaign/fiscal year targets and giving to-date, as well as statistical data. * Format reports generated by Data Services using Excel, PowerPoint and other software for presentation to the offices of the VP for Advancement and/or Principal Gifts. * Identify, qualify, rate and assign principal gift prospects to development officers in support of fundraising goals and objectives. * Partner closely with central development to make strategic recommendations to support management of principal gift prospects. * Facilitate updates in Advance related to prospect management and relationship manager assignments of principal and leadership gift prospects * Assist in goal setting and long term strategic planning for the acquisition, evaluation and qualification of prospects based on referrals, electronic wealth screening, surveys and any other related data sets. Special Projects & Initiatives * Maintain the principal gift news alert program. * Assist in maintaining integrity of the Advance database by providing updated donor/prospect information (biographical, other degrees, relationships, etc.) to Gifts and Records via the Bioliaison Mailbox. * Assist the Associate Director of Principal Gifts in formulating policies and procedures as they pertain to the Principal Gifts Office. * Assist in providing training and support for the Principal Gifts Office OPS student position. * Revise report templates and update research reports and other bios as needed. * Recognize best practices to support a culture of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Advertised Salary: Compensation is competitive and commensurate with education and experience. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area. Preferred Qualifications: * 2+ years in a development research office or related experience. * Demonstrated experience in prospect research, development, library research or information related field preferably in a higher education environment. * Demonstrated mastery in the collection, analysis, interpretation and evaluation of information. * Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial disclosure documents for the purposes of wealth assessment (SEC filings, real property files, financial and legal disclosures, etc.). Understanding of multiple screening strategies and methodologies, including data mining, segmentation and analytics. * Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, including diplomacy required to function effectively among campus fundraisers, high-level campus administrators, volunteers and other constituencies to bring large-scale projects to completion. * Ability to work in a team environment; strong project management, collaborative and problem solving skills. * Demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment and to work independently, prioritize work, and manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities while meeting deadlines. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information. * An inquisitive nature that uses deductive and intuitive reasoning, attention to detail, and a customer service oriented attitude are essential for success in this position. * Knowledge of ethical and best practices of Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and other appropriate associations. * Strong computer skills in these areas: Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, internet browsers, social media. Proficiency in Excel a must, including advanced formulas and functions (i.e. vlookup, hlookup, concatenate, etc.), pivot tables, charts and tables. Experience working with a relational database a necessity, preferably Advance CIS; ability to download and export information between systems. Experience with data analysis software (Advizor, PL/SQL, etc.) a plus. * Skill in utilizing multiple electronic resources such as Nexis? for Development Professionals, WealthEngine, iWave Pro, NOZA, Foundation Search, etc., to locate and compile business, philanthropic and biographic information. * Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency. * An appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms; proven success working with stakeholders; project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.
