    REGISTERED NURSE (University Hospital - Adult Emergency Services Graduate Nurse Internship) How to Apply This is a "multiple-fill" job opening: A total of ten (10) full time, BSN Graduate Nurse/Newly Licensed Registered Nurses will be hired to fill this job opening. Hours & shifts are identical for both hires. (see below for work schedule detail) Job Summary The University of Michigan, regionally and nationally known for its commitment to providing high quality, family-centered patient care seeks bachelors prepared Graduate Nurses for our Adult Emergency Services Nursing Internship program starting June 4, 2018. The UM Adult ED is a Level 1 Trauma Center with over 80,000 visits per year, providing a fast paced and exciting work environment. Our nurses serve as integral members of a multidisciplinary team providing care for adult patients in a variety of treatment areas. This is a 4 to 6 month internship program which prepares Graduate Nurses for a Registered Nurse position in the Emergency Department. Orientation includes a combination of classroom and precepted clinical experience. A two (2) year commitment to the department is required after completion of orientation program. The initial 4 to 6 months will rotate day, evening, and night shifts. Shift assignment will occur after successful completion of internship. Responsibilities* The UM Adult ED is a Level 1 Trauma Center with 87 beds, capable of cardiac monitoring, and includes 5 resuscitation bays. The Emergency Critical Care Center (EC3), is a section of the Adult Emergency Department, that offers specialized care for the severely ill or injured adult emergency patient. This Center has 15 critical care beds available for those patients needing critical care. Our Registered Nurses care for patients who present with a variety of injuries or ailments, ranging from minor to life-threatening. Nursing staff will receive the specialized training necessary to care for patients within the specific areas of our department, for example triage and resuscitation. Documentation occurs for all patients in an electronic medical record. Required Qualifications* * The candidate must be a Graduate Nurse or Newly Licensed Registered Nurse, who has not practiced as a Registered Nurse. * Candidate must have successfully completed an accredited BSN program. * Successful completion of NCLEX must occur no later than 45 days from the individuals start date. * Successful candidate must obtain ACLS during orientation, and obtain Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification within 6 months post orientation to maintain position. These can be obtained through UMHS Emergency Department. * Must be available to start Internship on June 4, 2018. NOTE: Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Desired Qualifications* * Excellent interpersonal communication skills are desired. * Experience in an Emergency Room, ICU, or as a Paramedic is desired. * Overall GPA of 3.5 or higher is preferred. Work Schedule Hours Per Week: 40 hrs, 8 & 12 hr shifts Shift/Hrs/Days: Permanent shift to be determined at the end of the Internship Location: Adult Emergency Department, Graduate Nurse Internship All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
