Job Summary THIS POSITION IS 30 HOURS PER WEEK TOTAL. https://lsa.umich.edu/math/ has several events each day along with special events each month. The department is large (150+ faculty), 180+ graduate students, and 500+ majors. The Events and Communications specialist will be responsible for assisting faculty with workshops, conferences, symposia, lectures, and speaker series. This work will include catering, hosting, venue reservations, accommodations, and travel arrangements. The department website maintenance, updating content, and preparation of marketing material are part of the responsibilities. Effort for this part of the position is 50% or approximately 20 hours per week. The Mathematics Center for Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics (MCAIM) is a center with a broad aim of serving as the focal point for activities that integrate mathematics with the sciences across the University. The aim of the Center is to enhance research and education in applied mathematics. This Center is located in Weiser Hall and this position will assist the Director with duties directly related to the Center. This position has a functional line to the Director with an administrative line to the Mathematics Chief Administrator. The Center is intended to improve and unify activities in the application of mathematics to science, engineering, medicine and public health. Several visitors, events, seminars, workshops, and other outreach activities will be part of this Center. The effort for this part of the position is 25% or approximately 7-10 hours per week although during conferences and workshops, the position will be fully engaged in the Center work. The target salary range for the position is $40,000-$45,000 (full-time effort). The actual salary offered may be higher based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate. As this is a 30 hours per week position, the target compensation will range from $30,000 - $33,750. Responsibilities* Program Coordinator for MCAIM This part of the position will include working with the Center Director to: Assist with information requests, create letters for Director for invitations to visitors, assist with reports to stakeholders, attend meetings for Center with Director, monitor budgets for Center, general financial/HR support: works with transactional teams for HR/finance appointments, payments, and reimbursements, website and social media updates; manage content updates for Facebook, Twitter, and other media including announcements, informational updates, and communication to participants. Events and Communications Specialist This position will work to promote the events and activities of the Mathematics Department. The specialist will highlight accomplishments of faculty via the website, work with faculty to promote their conferences and events, work with other mathematics staff to host events for faculty, and provide administrative support for updating webpages for all areas of the department. Required Qualifications* High school education or equivalent and two to four years work experience. Experience with social media platforms; experience with google calendaring and documents; experience and ability to work with minimum supervision; budgeting experience; excellent communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with external stakeholders; 2+ years experience with event planning and/or program support. Desired Qualifications* Three years event planning and support; Bachelors degree in related field; knowledge of University systems and academic environment; significant familiarity with budgeting and expense processes. 3-5 years experience with program management. Experience in Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and Wordpress desired. Extensive social media experience desired.
