PSECC Operator Positions in this class are responsible for monitoring video surveillance, card access, alarm and Emergency communication systems. Answers calls for service and dispatches and/or notifies appropriate personnel. Conducts hardware inspections, facility security surveys and lighting inspections. TYPICAL DUTIES (These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this class.) Performs active monitoring of video surveillance equipment for the University of Minnesota system. Conducts random electronic virtual patrols of five (5) campuses to detect suspicious activity, and reports observed activity to appropriate public safety resources. Performs requested reviews of recorded video from surveillance equipment for the University of Minnesota system. Coordinates with internal and external partners, along with appropriate public safety entities by retrieving and reviewing recorded video to locate evidence for use in criminal prosecutions for incidents occurring on or near any of the five (5) campuses and/or outreach facilities. Performs central station monitoring of campus card-access system alarms. Locates resources within the system to determine the source of the alarm. Makes notifications to appropriate personnel, and assists with scheduling adjustment or troubleshooting, as necessary. Reports, documents, and manages responses to alarm failures. Performs central station monitoring of campus, building, and research alarms, performing callbacks and after-hours emergency contact notifications using telephone or other communications equipment. Monitors critical infrastructure alarms, including BSL labs, irradiators, steam tunnels, electricity-generating plants, etc. and makes emergency notifications, as necessary. Performs central station monitoring of GPS-based items designed to reduce theft and increase incidence of criminal apprehension. Follows items on a map-based program, reporting updated locations to responding law enforcement personnel. Prepares and maintains department records, including logging various requests, incidents, and actions taken. Complete complaint/call log. Performs data entry. Receives and acts on requests for building and infrastructure support services, and creates service requests in Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Answers and responds to calls for service, including Lockouts and other access-related issues Video requests Security escorts Elevator entrapments Performs all aspects of Security Monitor Program dispatching function. Receives calls for security escorts via telephone or electronic means, accurately and efficiently assigns appropriate personnel to calls for service, maintains unit statuses, dispatches via radio, and enters status updates into Computer Aided Dispatch. Operates and monitors a wide range of moderately complex computer driven equipment, such as internal emergency-reporting intercom systems (Stentofon), CCTV systems, and emergency alerting/notification systems, in addition to telephone, radios, recorders, and word processors. Drives or walks to conduct security hardware inspections; tests equipment installations and prepares facility security surveys. Receives and coordinates after-hours card access key system emergency calls. Answer questions and provides a wide array of information to callers. May train, orient, and review the work of other employees. Must be able to respond dynamically to developing situations. Other duties as assigned. Salary range $15.29 - $23.77 hourly SUPERVISION This position is non-supervisory but may assign, direct, train or review the work of other staff. WORK ENVIRONMENT This position is required to work on holidays, evenings, and weekends. The position makes critical decisions independently and carries out duties in a high-stress environment.
