    Join MontanaPBS’s dynamic and creative content team as the Production Manager at KUFM-TV in Missoula, MT.

    The Production Manager works with departmental leadership and technical expertise in studio and field television productions. In this position you will work with broadcast, promotion and digital services staff as well as KUFM-TV production facilities and equipment. You will collaborate with award winning producers and create original, high quality, video content that furthers the educational and public service mission of MontanaPBS.

    • Manage equipment, facilities, and budget resources, and will work with the video production team to oversee and provide leadership for various concurrent projects.
    • Oversee and manage the television studio and control room. They will assist with scheduling, maintenance, and functionality for a variety of productions and uses in the studio and control room. They will assist with lighting and set design for various productions.
    • Bring experience and knowledge that guides the various production teams in creating meaningful, compelling long form, short form, and informational programs.
    • Will pitch, develop, produce, and direct original content intended for broadcast on MontanaPBS, including news-public affairs, documentary, performing arts and drama programming, and live fundraising and special events.
    • Produce and contribute to the award-winning content MontanaPBS brings to national audiences, via distribution through PBS, APT, and NETA, and work closely with independent producers to create content that is relevant and important to our viewers.

    Local Content Production

    • Serve as a leader with broadcast and production services staff to continually grow and improve the station’s local, regional and contracted production output.
    • Leverage new technologies and storytelling methods to create compelling long form, short form, and informational programs.
    • Seek ongoing professional development for all production staff and encourage professional growth in media technologies and narrative storytelling.
    • Ensure locally produced content is compelling, ethical, and balanced, while meeting local and national PBS editorial integrity and funding standards.
    • Work with the Directors of the Digital Engagement, Education, and Development departments to ensure local programming serves an important role in the station’s fundraising, education, and social media campaigns.
    • Serve as a creative and technical resource to the department, advancing other team member’s projects.
    • Engage in co-production relationships with independent producers to further their distribution goals and bringing original content to MontanaPBS viewers.

    Equipment and Facilities

    • Provide oversight and support for all production related equipment and facilities, including but not limited to field kits, studios, control rooms, cameras, lighting and audio systems, and post-production facilities.
    • Work with engineering team to repair, maintain, and replace equipment. Collaborate with Technical Director to provide broadcast industry insights and expertise for long term and short-term technical plans.
    • Provide leadership and training to staff in learning and implementing new technologies, and current industry trends and standards.
    • Lead and encourage strategic thinking for the implementation of new and emerging technologies.

    This position may supervise interns and student employees.

    Significant in-state travel may be required, in addition to varied work schedules that may include evenings and weekends.

    Position Details

    • Position is full-time, 1.0 FTE, Letter of Appointment and includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
    • Salary for this position is $55,000- $60,000 per year commensurate with qualifications.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree and/or a combination of relevant professional work experience in the television production field
    • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple and complex productions from conception to completion.
    • Understanding and demonstrated practice of editorial integrity and journalistic ethics widely accepted in public media.
    • Demonstrated understanding and adherence to broadcast technical specifications and deliverables.
    • Significant achievements in the creation of content, resulting in the enhanced reputation of the public or commercial television industry, and/or Awards such as NATAS Emmy, Cine, or Regional Awards.
    • Demonstrated mastery of television production facilities, field equipment, and postproduction theory, equipment, and workflows.
    • Generally recognized peer status within the public or commercial television industry, demonstrating a breadth of knowledge and mastery of the television production field.
