Air Conditioning Apprentice Environmental Trades Technician I (serves
as Environmental Systems Apprentice) FUNCTION: Repairs and performs
preventive maintenanceon refrigerators, window air conditioners,
freezers, ice-making machines, andair compressors. Performs
similarroutine tasks REPRESENTATIVEDUTIES: 1. Maintains refrigerators,
window air conditioners, freezers,ice-making machines, and air
compressors, gas fired furnaces, and split systema/c equipment. 2.
Aligns motor and blower drive units, both pulley and belttype, and
flexible coupling type. 3. Maintains water pump. 4. Reads simple
electrical wiring diagrams. 5. Soft solders, silver solders, and low
temperature brazestubing and piping systems. 6. Services filters of all
types, i.e., throw-away, washable,and roll-a-matic. 7. Assists in
maintaining the supply inventory on the truck. 8. Have a basic
understanding of HVAC systems. 9. Performs related duties as assigned.
**Required Education: **High School Diploma or GED OR an equivalent
combination of education/job related experience, AND: * 24 months
refrigeration and air conditioning experience Skills: * Uses tools
or equipment in a manner requiring competence * Reads and interprets
routine written or printed materials such as simple diagrams *
Communicates orally and/or in writing as required to exchange
information * Performs simple recordkeeping operations requiring logging
- Performs addition and subtraction Certifications: * Valid Driver's
License * Certification for use of refrigerant recovery/recycle
equipment * Apprentice card or ability to obtain within one year of
employment Advertised Physical Requirements: * Climbing ladders and
stairs * Frequent and repeated bending, stooping, and kneeling *
Soldering and brazing tubing and piping * Crawling under structures and
through tunnels * Working with arms extended above head * Working while
lying down * Working in extremely disagreeable weather conditions *
Carrying tools up to and/or in excess of fifty pounds up or down stairs
- Regular exposure to heavy lifting (up to 100 pounds), extreme
temperature changes, and safety hazards * Working on rooftops that
exceed ten feet * Using pipe wrench, hammer, pliers, and assorted
mechanical tools * Moving furniture and heavy equipment * Loading and
unloading truck manually and using forklifts * Working with hazardous
materials * Using good eyesight and hearing to prevent safety hazards *
Exposure to odors * Using repeated hand and wrist movements * Drug test
required for continuous positions * Physical abilities test required for
all positions * Some overtime required, including nights, weekends and
holidays, including rotating on-call responsibilities * May be
designated as an essential position during emergency closures * May be
required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other
