Department Summary It is the mission of Student Orientation Programs to introduce new and prospective students and their families to the university's intellectual climate. In addition, we seek to improve the quality of the new student experience by providing assistance with academic, personal, and social adjustment to the university, demonstrating the University of Oregon's commitment to teaching, learning, and scholarship. Through recruitment programs such as the Ambassador Program, Duck Preview, Duck Days and orientation events such as IntroDUCKtion and Week of Welcome, Student Orientation Programs serve approximately 90,000 visitors, prospective students, new students, and families. Position Summary The essential function of the Coordinator for Orientation Programs is to manage student staff for orientation. The position supports the operations of domestic undergraduate orientation and contributes to student development by executing a strong university program. The position collaborates with faculty and staff throughout the University. The Coordinator executes administrative procedures for Student Orientation Programs in consultation with the Assistant Director for Orientation Programs. This position has a significant impact on the orientation and transition of students at the University because of its influence on the student leaders. The Coordinator supports programs and services that connect students to the University using intentional student development and enrollment transition theories. In addition, the Coordinator plays an integral role in the development of students employed within Student Orientation Programs; supervision and advising of student staff includes staff development and evaluation. This position supervises 40+ student employees; 60% of the incumbents time will be devoted to student supervision. The Coordinator will plan, assign and approve work, address and carry out performance issues, respond to grievances, prepare and complete evaluations, and hire/terminate student employees. Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree. Two years experience hiring, training, and supervising student employees. Two years work experience in higher education administration, enrollment management, student affairs, or a related field. Graduate-level work applies. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, highly collaborative, team-oriented environment. Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, including the ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Preferred Qualifications Masters degree in higher education administration, student affairs, or a related field. Experience with undergraduate orientation, transition, and retention programs. Demonstrated experience enhancing student retention. Spanish language skills desired.
