Department Summary University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: UO Alumni Association, Development, Principal and International Gifts, Advancement Operations, Federal Affairs, and State and Community Affairs. Development in University Advancement is a comprehensive fundraising department supporting the entire university campus with an overall mission to sustain and enhance excellence at the University of Oregon. Divisions within this department coordinate fundraising priorities and goals, collaborate in preparing annual goals and plans, and provide recommendations for implementing development activities university-wide. Employees work out of the central office in the Ford Alumni Center, the Portland White Stag building, and the UO Bend Center. Position Summary The Development Assistant provides administrative support and coordination to a group of development officers in the central development team and reports to the Administrative Program Manager. This position works as part of an administrative team and has a crucial role in the success of the departments mission. This role is a great opportunity for individuals who are interested in a career in higher education fundraising and external relations. The Development Assistant will have the opportunity to build comprehensive knowledge of the University of Oregon, its donors and stakeholders, and the $3 billion campaign. This position will provide administrative support to development officers by making travel arrangements, scheduling meetings, and coordinating calendars, as well as assisting with gathering and compiling donor information, coordinating small- and mid-size events, maintaining department accounting records, and other administrative duties. To be successful, the Development Assistant will need to be highly organized and able to provide excellent customer service to colleagues, donors, and friends of the university from a variety of backgrounds. This position also requires the ability to take appropriate initiative in prioritizing work as well as the ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment. Minimum Requirements Two years of general clerical experience, one year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents; OR An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology; OR Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience. College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Professional Competencies Proven ability to handle highly sensitive and/or confidential information. Excellent organizational skills and administrative skills, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively, anticipate needs, and promote flexibility in a team environment. Proven proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (or similar scheduling/calendar program), and familiarity with other Microsoft Office applications. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills; attention to detail. Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, including providing excellent customer service. Self-motivated, punctual, and reliable; organized and flexible. Commitment to and experience with promoting and enhancing diversity and equity. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Advance or similar CRM platform. Experience in a higher education setting Experience in or knowledge of fundraising. Experience providing customer service to donors or clients. Experience and comfort in working in a fast-paced, time challenging environment.
