Essential Functions Coordinates and evaluates care to patients, families, groups, and communities; provides care at the point of care to patients focusing on health promotion and risk reduction services; delivers care to an increasingly complex and diverse population along the continuum of care and in multiple environments; participates in clinical decision making; develops and implements plan of care for patients; uses evidence-based approach by identifying trends and modifying interventions to meet specific needs of patients, clinical populations and other professionals; collects and analyzes data to evaluate and achieve optimal patient outcomes; uses information systems and technology at the point of care to improve healthcare outcomes; ensures patients, families, and other professionals are informed and included in the patient's plan of care; serves as an advocate for the profession and the multidisciplinary healthcare team; incorporates appropriate teaching principles and strategies as well as current information to teach patients, families, and other healthcare professionals; designs and implements education programs for patients; provides education guidance to other healthcare professionals; participates in systems review throughout the continuum of care to improve quality of patient care; evaluates and anticipates risks to patient safety with the aim to prevent errors; implements measures to modify risk factors; uses appropriate tools for risk analysis (root cause analysis, PDSA); delegates and manages nursing resources; serves as a leader and partner in the multidisciplinary healthcare team; manages and collaborates with a team of other health professionals; accountable for the ongoing acquisition of knowledge and skills to effect change in healthcare practice and outcomes; integrates care provided by all healthcare providers including community resources, social networks and decision support mechanisms to facilitate discharge; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records by utilizing the correct tools and procedures, supervising, evaluating, and finalizing the patient care record; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adults, Geriatric; maintains current knowledge of accreditation standards and facilitates implementation for the Medical Surgical unit; participates on various committees as assigned; participates in formal education activities (i.e. Grand Rounds, workshops and conferences); participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required. Minimum Requirements Master's degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, two years of professional nursing experience, and licensure with the state of Alabama as a registered nurse. CNL certification preferred.
