It integrates academic endeavors with meaningful experiences within a myriad of student development programs. Together, these programs aim to provide coordinated opportunities for students to develop their identities and intellectual competencies for successful careers and lifelong learning. The Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) and Bachelor of Science in Applied Science (BSAS) degree completion initiatives are designed to assisting students with earning their first baccalaureate degree. POSITION SUMMARY: This Academic Advising position within Undergraduate Studies administers the Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) program, a degree completion program for returning adult students, and internal, at-risk USF students, admitted to the program on an exceptional basis. This position advises students concerning their academic plans, progression toward degree, class schedule, choice of major, career goals, and other academic activities to assist the student in making decisions concerning personal education goals leading to graduation. A successful candidate will possess an understanding of how students benefit from a developmental, intrusive and appreciative advising approach and will exhibit a high ethic of care and desire for student success. Further duties within the position include representing USF with the Complete Florida partner institutions - a statewide initiative to help adult learners complete their degrees, 100% online. As the Complete Florida institutional contact person, the candidate will work with Complete Florida coaching staff to admit reentry students. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provide Academic Advising of BGS students in person, by phone, by email and/or other methods such as Skype. Student population management and data analysis. * Advise, recruit and admit prospective new students into the BGS degree program. Assist with USF admission processes and orientation which overlaps with academic advising. * Update and revise BGS curriculum guides, website, application tools, catalog revisions and marketing. * Represent USF as part of the Complete Florida statewide initiative as the USF institutional point of contact. Collaborate with USF Office of Admissions and Complete Florida staff to encourage enrollment of reentry students and to support adult learners. * Provide outreach to departments in order to develop or maintain concentrations and courses to assist with graduation progression and completion of BGS degrees. Provide outreach to state and community colleges. * Respond to miscellaneous requests for USF information not related to BGS or Complete Florida and referrals from other departments. Capstone course permit management. Serve as back up support for BSAS advisor. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM: This position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling or academic field directly related to the Advisor's specific responsibilities with two years of experience in advising or related academic functions within higher education. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor's degree requirement for this position. PREFERRED: Master's degree in Education, College Student Affairs or Academic field that directly relates to the advisors specific responsibilities. Related experience in the following areas: customer service, instruction counseling, working with non-traditional students. Knowledge of Excess Credit Hour Surcharge, academic probation and University academic policies. Working knowledge of computer competencies, particularly with USF systems: Banner, WebXtender, OASIS, DegreeWorks, Canvas, Qualtrics, Archivum, Civitas. SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING: Strong skill and proficiency in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, Lync, Powerpoint) etc. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated participation with a regionally or nationally recognized Academic Advising organization. The candidate's research should be focused on Academic Advising Excellence. Preferred candidates will also have demonstrated leadership and partnering with Academic Administration in a Higher Education setting. Commitment to the recruitment and retention of a culturally diverse student body; ability to organize and handle multiple projects simultaneously; awareness of other cultures and ethnicities; and experience communicating with students of various nationalities, age ranges and backgrounds.
