St. Paul Parks and Recreation seeks to improve the quality of life for all St. Paul citizens by providing consistent access to a variety of recreational activities. Assist the Community Recreation Specialist and staff in providing community recreation programs in one of the recreation centers in St. Paul and/or off-site programming. Programs seeking work study staff: Rec Check - After school youth program, S'More Fun- before and after school program for grades 1-6, The Canvas - teenage arts program at Hancock Recreation Center, Programs for pre-school age children and seniors, general recreation center assistance. *Organize, lead and monitor recreational activities for all ages and abilities *Assist with clerical support *Help supervise buildings and outdoor programming spaces *Provide information to the general public *Help maintain an orderly, friendly and safe atmosphere for participants and staff *Perform field monitor and gym monitor duties for youth athletics *Assist in keeping records and preparing reports such as attendance, incident and accident *Setting up rooms for rentals, game schedules for youth and adult leagues and fields for youth athletics *Operate recreational and maintenance equipment *Assist in flooding and maintaining ice skating rinks QUALIFICATIONS APPLICANTS FOR THIS POSITION MUST QUALIFY FOR FEDERAL OR STATE WORK STUDY This position is off-campus and student employees must provide their own transportation to the site. *Ability to deal effectively with staff, volunteers and the general public, especially young people *Computer literate *Basic knowledge of recreational activities Areas of focus: Pre-school childcare, off-site youth programming, sports programming for youth and adults, senior programming and computer lab.
