Department/Unit Campus Life - Student Affairs Campus US-MN-St. Paul Anticipated Start Date 8/19/2019 Special Instructions TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT | - Attend Spring Leadership Night, Fall Leadership Institute, and other professional development opportunities | - Attend the NACA Regional Conference (National Association of Campus Activities) | - Participate in the transition meetings between outgoing interns and newly-selected interns | - Attend all required STAR meetings and retreat | REQUIRED DATES | - Fall Leadership Institute (late August), Welcome Days (Labor Day Weekend), Homecoming (October), Tommie Fest (mid-May) | - Transition training with outgoing interns | - Fall retreat and mid-year retreat OVERVIEW Job Title: Star Intern - Programming Pay Rate: STAR interns are paid $10.70/hour and can earn up to $1,500 per semester Shifts: STAR interns work from the beginning of August through the middle of May Locations: Saint Paul, MN JOB SUMMARY This posting is part of the 2019-2020 Student Leadership Positions (SLP). These positions are part of a process that involves collaborative efforts of offices and departments from all around campus. The goal of SLP is to encourage cross-promotion of leadership positions as well as organize various workshops and trainings to help prepare candidates for the job application process. PROGRAMMING INTERNS POSITION DESCRIPTIONS THURSDAY NIGHT LIVE INTERNS * Plan, promote, implement and attend all Thursday Night Live events * Work with the STAR Graduate Advisor to develop a list of artists each semester, ensuring diversity in performers and genres to create an inclusive environment for all students * Advance shows and coordinate hospitality for those involved with events (parking, Green Room, etc.) * Communicate with ITS regarding technology needs of artists * Coordinate the recruitment, audition process, and selection of student performers each semester * Meet weekly with the STAR Graduate Advisor and as needed with STAR Advisor WEEKEND PROGRAMMING INTERNS * Plan, promote, and implement creative weekend events (could include afternoon, evening & late-night events both on or off-campus) * Work with STAR Advisor to contact agents, companies, vendors, and venues for programming needs * Advance shows and coordinate hospitality for those involved with events (parking, Green Room, etc.) * Attend planned events and recruit other interns to help staff events when needed * Meet weekly with STAR Advisor EXCURSIONS AND ADVENTURES INTERNS * Plan, promote, and implement creative off-campus and recreational events for St. Thomas students * Work closely with the University Tickets to promote and sell/distribute tickets to events * Work with STAR Advisors to contact venues, coordinate ticketing and logistics for events * Attend planned events and recruit other interns to help staff events when needed * Meet weekly with the STAR Graduate Advisor and as needed with STAR Advisor ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS GENERAL EXPECTATIONS * Work as part of a team to successfully plan, promote, implement, and evaluate campus-wide programming * Work approximately ten hours per week, including office hours and STAR events * Attend weekly STAR meetings and meet regularly with the STAR Advisor(s) * Maintain timely communication with other STAR Interns and keep event info up to date on OneDrive * Work cooperatively with STAR Marketing Interns to promote events and contribute to STAR social media * Complete TommieLink submissions and post-event reviews for each event * Responsibly manage a budget in coordination with the VP/Finance Intern * Communicate with proper on and off campus departments, including but not limited to Tommie Central, University Tickets, Facilities, Public Safety, ITS and Dining Services * Support other campus-wide programming, such as Welcome Days and Homecoming * Abide by all University policies and procedures * Attend and support other STAR events/programs * Complete other duties as assigned HOW TO APPLY To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
