Sustainable Community Development Internship UW Extension Ashland County Ashland, Wisconsin Experience Type: Internships Position Available: Fall Term Hourly Rate or Pay Range: Unpaid Application Deadline: September 7, 2018 Share Facebook Twitter The University of Wisconsin-Extension, Ashland County office is currently seeking interns for Fall semester 2018 and Winter semester 2019. Extension works with regional community organizations and educational institutions to promote sustainable community development, healthy family living practices, and strong youth development programs. The intern will be working primarily out of the UW-Extension office in the Ashland County Courthouse. The internship would begin at the start of the semester applied for and end at the end of the semester. During the fall semester interns have the option of applying for a 2-credit or 4-credit internship. Hours are flexible to meet the students schedule. Application for credit with the interns college is the students responsibility. Work Hours: The majority of work hours will fall during the Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm workday. Hours are flexible and may include occasional evening or weekend work to support programs. Responsibilities and Qualifications The description of the internship is broad and flexible based on the interests and skills of the intern. This is a non-paid internship. UW-Extension will cover travel and other related expenses that might be part of the interns work. General Tasks May Include Assist in researching local community development issues Assist in research related to the county comprehensive plan action steps Help develop, conduct, and analyze survey research Help with Community Asset Mapping and other uses of GIS mapping by assisting Ashland County Extension office and the Ashland County GIS Specialist with mapmaking projects During the winter term, the intern has the opportunity to participate in the Ashland/Bayfield Counties Community Leadership program and can serve as a teaching assistant for the course (end of January through the first of May) Assist in collaborative work with other organizations and educational institutions including program planning and facilitation Examples of Previous Intern Work Local Food Information study Madeline Island Comprehensive Plan review public input sessions Madeline Island librarys community garden strategic planning process Good Eats Group local food collaborative Landlord/Tenant Guide for the City of Ashland Wisconsin Innovation Network Lake Superior chapter, program assistance Green Team Network Energy and Renewable Energy projects Study of Childcare Needs in Ashland County Updating data for the Ashland County Comprehensive Plan Skills Acquired or Strengthened The intern will have the opportunity to acquire or enhance skills in organization, project development, research, survey methodology, and a variety of other skills required for students interested in pursuing a career in sustainable community development. They will also become familiar with University Extension programming in community development and potential career opportunities within Extension.
