  • Responsibilities

    Position Purpose: Teach College Preparatory Physics, Honors Physics and Advanced Physical Science

    Essential Functions:

    1. For each particular course, teacher must be capable of engaging students to learn the material through a biblical worldview.

    2. Identify and select appropriate science instructional materials aligned to content standards.

    3. Commit to developing a positive attitude toward the study of science and the relevancy of science in the lives of students, especially as it relates to their understanding of God and His creation.

    4. Develop short term and annual instruction goals that reflect national and state physics/science standards. Apply goals to class and individual student work to ensure all students have the maximum probability of success at the college/university level.

    5. Conduct labs, including inquiry based laboratory assignments, so students develop logical and analytical thinking processes, critical thinking skills, and problem solving skills.

    6. Generate questions/problems for assessments, which give evidence to students’ having the necessary understanding of the subject matter taught.

    7. Assign and grade homework, lab reports, quizzes, tests in a timely manner so that class and individual student progress can be measured and monitored."

  • Qualifications
    1. A degree in Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, or secondary education with a science focus from an accredited institution.

    2. Ability to work collaboratively with upper school administration and upper school teaching teams.

    3. Ability to communicate with upper school students and partner with parents.

    4. Ability and eagerness to lead or assist in co-curricular activities (Science Bowl, Student Advisory, or other school clubs).

    5. Strong organizational skills and insights on how to teach a class with wide ranging abilities.

    6. Ability to use technology in the classroom as an instructional tool.

    Abilities Needed:

    1. Oral Expression- The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand

    2. Speech Recognition- The ability to identify and understand the speech of another person

    3. Oral Comprehension- The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

    4. Written Comprehension and Expression- The ability to understand and communicate information and ideas in writing so others can understand

    5. Selective Attention- The ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted

    6. Vision- The ability to see details at a close range as well as at a distance

    7. Environment- The ability to work in a potentially stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts

    8. The ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time

    9. The ability to occasionally life up to 30 pounds

    10. Generally works in climate controlled environment, but may be required from time to time to work outdoors in extreme conditions.
