Roles and Responsibilities: The Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist is responsible for recruiting in the Washington, DC area from September through the January application deadline. Starting in October and full-time after the January deadline through the start of Summer Institute, they are responsible for cultivating candidates who have been accepted into the program from the moment they are admitted through their first graduate class at Summer Institute. Starting in January, this person is also responsible for planning Summer Institute. From June-August, they are managing Summer Institute for the Washington, DC residents. Recruitment: Co-develop and implement a Local Recruitment and Community Engagement Strategy for Washington, DC in coordination with the Regional Recruiter. Activities include: coordination of recruitment efforts with Urban Teachers school partners including building microsites linking websites, organizing events such as career fairs, happy hours, coffees, panels, and movie screenings with local universities and partner organizations such as City Year and Reading Partners. This also means building brand awareness with community stakeholders. Manage recruitment at five local universities and local partners. Find prospects and schedule 1:1 conversations. Plan and host events. Organize and host Job Shadow Day programs for prospects. Coordinate with Regional Recruiter to implement immersion programs. Assist in collecting stories and photos about Urban Teachers residents and fellows for communications and fundraising purposes. Work with Regional Recruiter to develop Urban Teachers branded items, contribute to brand awareness and increase knowledge of education equity. Attend recruitment team meetings and meet 1:1 with the Executive Director of Recruitment Fall-Jan. and the Director of Selection and Admissions (Fall-June) in coordination with the Assistant Director at the Washington, DC Site. Participate in local interview days and assist Recruitment Team in logistics and planning. Develop reports about new residents for school partners for matching purposes. Host school matching events for residents. After the January deadline, work with the regional recruiter to handover all recruitment relationships. Cultivation: Ensure ongoing cultivation of incoming residents from acceptance to arrival, in collaboration with recruitment & the site teams with a focus on 1:1 interactions using motivations and barriers to create a strategic cultivation plan for each accepted candidate Serve as the primary point of contact for new residents onboarding to their new host city to ensure a smooth and welcoming arrival. Oversee logistics of onboading new residents. Create a set of housing options for incoming residents in their host city. Organize and facilitate social and educational events with current Urban Teachers fellows, residents and incoming residents during the fall and spring. Develop and host a webinar series with Urban Teachers national and city-based staff to disseminate information and welcome incoming residents. Organize placement events (HireVue, fairs, calls) and logistical support to allow principals to assess resident teachers for employment. Connect with principals, find venues and manage participants. Designing and coordinate activities to orient incoming residents to their new city (i.e. walking tours of the neighborhoods in which they will teach). Starting in June of every year, take over remaining enrollment tasks ensuring final Praxis scores and all final transcripts are received. Summer Institute Operations: Coordinate and finalize partnerships with institutions of higher education or similar organizations to acquire dedicated classroom space, dining, access to general facilities, and room and board for 150 residents for a duration of six weeks. Build partnerships for Summer A residents: including liaising with summer partners and organizing schedules to provide opportunities for daily; immersive teaching experiences. Co-Design an orientation and move-in day for incoming residents. Lead orientation and move-in for incoming residents. Lead all aspects of planning Summer Institute with Assistant Directors, Director of Clinical Faculty (including project management, convening & coordinating efforts of cross-functional teams, managing a budget) Coordinate the staffing for Summer Institute: including events management, faculty coordination and internships Hire, manage and supervise interns, graduate assistants, and resident assistants on-site. Provide on-the-ground logistical support for summer coursework & serve as key points to residents during their first summer. Manage Move-In-Day organize local and national staff, move-in arrangements, and dorm room assignments Preferred Skill-Set: College graduate with 2-4 years of work experience, including event planning, recruitment and customer service.
