    Job Summary

    The Graduate School of Counseling and Psychology (GSCP) seeks to fill full or part-time visiting instructor positions in the Mindfulness-based Transpersonal Counseling (MTC) department beginning July 1, 2025. The university and department have a strong commitment to achieving diversity among faculty and staff.     The job includes administrative duties for the MTC department and the Graduate School of Counseling, including but not limited to recruitment and admissions, networking within the field of mindfulness-based transpersonal counseling, student learning outcomes assessment, and active engagement in the delivery of the MTC concentrations.

    Qualified applicants must be able to demonstrate consistent success in negotiating the pedagogical, clinical, and collaborative responsibilities of a faculty appointment within the degree program and within the Graduate School of Counseling (GSC).

    Job Duties & Responsibilities

    • Teach 24 credits (1 FTE), 18 credits (.75 FTE) or 12 credits (.5 FTE) each academic year, in the residential MTC and/or hybrid MTC concentrations.

    • May include both 100% On-Site and Hybrid On-Site/Remote, depending on the class.

    • Attend and actively participate in all programmatic and school-wide meetings, as well as co-curricular events sponsored by the MTC department.

    • In concert with the MTC leadership teams, develop and conduct plans for student learning outcomes assessment, and ongoing curriculum development.

    • Actively participate in the administrative operations of the MTC department, including admissions interviews and events.

    • Actively participate in course team instructor meetings, for discussion about consistency and quality across sections of the same course.

    • Engage in professional development that includes pedagogy, contemplative education, transpersonal education, and diversity/inclusivity.

    • Hold regular office hours and provide professional and academic support to students and prospective students as needed outside of class time, both in-person and remotely.

    • Understand and adhere to the policies, procedures, and protocols outlined in the Faculty and Employee Handbooks.

    • Complete additional program duties as assigned.

    What We Require

    • EITHER a doctorate in Counseling, Counselor Education & Supervision, Psychology, related area relevant to mental health (e.g., Counseling Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy) or related to the course specialization;

    OR these three requirements:

    1. Master's degree in Counseling or a related field;

    2. Licensed or eligible for licensure at the Professional Counselor or equivalent level; and

    3. Equivalent of two years’ full-time employment in a clinical capacity in a mental health related setting (private practice, agency, or related setting) in the last five years.

    • Must EITHER

    - be able to teach weekly in person, on campus in Boulder,

    - OR be able to travel to the Boulder area for a week long intensive once each semester, travel and lodging will be provided.

    • Significant teaching experience including lecture, facilitating discussion, and experiential exercises.

    • Ability to demonstrate course content area knowledge and understanding of its application in counseling.

    • High degree of emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and assertive communication skills.

    • Demonstrated skill in recognizing and addressing issues related to privilege, oppression, diversity and inclusivity in higher education communities, especially in regards to curriculum content and classroom facilitation.

    • Willingness to participate in professional development, including openness to feedback and ongoing self-examination.

    • Ability to create and maintain a positive team environment and behave professionally with everyone encountered in the course and scope of the job duties.

    What We’d Like You to Have

    • Familiarity with transpersonal psychology, mindfulness approaches, and/or contemplative education.

    • Experience in training counselors at the graduate level.

    • Recent and/or current experience in the counseling field.

    Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions

    Faculty members spend most of their time in their classrooms or in virtual meetings with some time in offices. In the classrooms and on campus may experience: interruptions, distractions, heat, cold, dust and/or dampness. As a faculty member, you may spend extended periods in front of students and speaking as well as:

    • Reading academic texts and materials, student papers, etc.

    • Operating personal computer and audio-visual equipment.

    • Standing or sitting for hours at a time.

    • Moving around campus for classes and meetings

    Naropa recognizes the following holidays throughout the year: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Fall Break, 4th Thursday and Friday in November, and Winter Break, the last two weeks in December encompassing the Christmas holiday as well as New Year’s.

    Employees who work fewer than 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in Naropa’s retirement plan only, which includes up to 2.5% employer matching.

    All regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including student workers, accrue sick leave benefits. Full-time and part-time staff positions accrue vacation and personal time. All leave accrual rates vary based on the position, hours worked, and years of service.
