The Research Intern is responsible for performing work in support of scientific research which provides practical experience for beginners in a research related field; using advanced skills and knowledge to perform the following non-inclusive list of tasks, perform complex investigative procedures; modifies procedures to accomplish research goals; collect, process and analyze data; run research protocols; assist in preparing manuscripts for journals or presentations for conferences. Assists PI to accomplish research goals on telomerase roles in cancer and aging. Independently runs standard research protocols, including tissue culture, Western blotting/protein analyses,DNAandRNAwork, real timePCR, etc. -Collects and records research data, verifies accuracy, analyzes research results; assists in the development of conclusion and summary of research findings. Assist PI in animal experiments including animal handling and sample collection. Assists PI to collect research data, verify accuracy, analyze research results, and prepare charts and graphs for presentations at research meetings and for grant proposals. Attend and present during regular laboratory meetings. ________________________________________ 25% Animal Handling Under general supervision conduct animal research. Responsible for conducting experimental planning with mice. Responsible for mouse studies, to include alcohol feeding, measurement of tumor growth, and collection of urine and organ, and tissue samples. Responsible for general care and maintenance of the animal colony. ________________________________________ 10% Laboratory Maintenance Monitor, order and stock lab supplies. Assist with inventory maintenance. Participate with washing dishes and laboratory cleaning. Maintain safe laboratory environment at all times. Properly dispose of laboratory waste, biomedical waste, broken glassware, and any other hazardous materials. Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills. -Additional Requirements -Bachelors Degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field. Basic experimental and analytical skills. Experience with the use of laboratory equipment and routine laboratory and animal maintenance. -Preferred Qualifications -Background knowledge in cell and molecular biology. Experience with common laboratory procedures, ordering, and standardization of protocols. Experience with basic research design. Experience with tissue culture. Experience in molecular biology techniques: molecular cloning;DNA,RNA, and protein analyses. Two years of laboratory mouse colony management. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
