Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Accounting Services. This position is for the Danforth Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing customer service to students, parents and University departments with respect to financial transactions on student accounts. In addition this position will update, review and reconcile various student / University information. This position will support Supervisor and other areas of Accounting Operations. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provide professional and courteous customer service to students, parents and University departments with respect to financial transactions, payment plans, etc. on student accounts. Research late fee disputes and follow up with customer emails. 2. Responsible for receiving and tracking all third party payer vouchers. Update students accounts and invoice, collect and post third party payments. Analyze credit balances on student accounts from third party vendors, research discrepancies to resolution. Issue third party student refunds (Danforth Campus). 3. Accurately record various incoming payments and award transactions to students account (SIS) and to the general ledger (FIS) on a daily basis. Process returned checks. 4. Maintain working knowledge of various procedures, processes and systems in Student Billing and Accounting Operations. Assist other areas of Accounting operations, including Collection Services. Assist accounting operating departments by preparing journals, receipt vouchers and accounting reconciliations. Research and report on activity and other technical issues. 5. Additional tasks as assigned and provide support to the Supervisor of Student Accounting. Complete special projects and other work as assigned by management. Required Qualifications * High school graduate, minimum 60 semester hours of college including 12 hours of accounting; or High School plus three years of progressive experience in professional accounting or receivable functions, preferably in a University environment. * Strong PC skills, proficient in Access, Excel spreadsheets and effective communication skills. * Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks under deadlines. * Ability to handle confidential information responsibly. Preferred Qualifications * Bachelors degree and extensive accounts receivable and customer service experience. * Prior experience in a University or not-for-profit environment. * A self-motivated individual driven by challenge, with the ability to work independently with a high degree of reliability, accuracy and productivity; actively attempts to influence events, originates and takes action; ability to participate as a team member on various types of teams and projects to achieve the goals of Accounting Services. * Knowledge of internal controls, ability to research and report upon accounting and other technical issues. * Manage high volume workload efficiently. * Exercise the ability to streamline process while solving problems and making decisions. * Excellent communication and customer services skills (both written and verbal). * Ability to exercise judgment and take corrective action; has a high attention for detail. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $17.14 - $21.85 per hour.
