Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Office of Technology Management. The position is located at 4240 Duncan Ave. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The contracts coordinator manages material transfer agreements (MTAs), confidentiality agreements (CDAs), copyright license agreements and related intellectual property contracts associated with the transfer of intellectual property and research materials with both industry and non-profit research institutions. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Draft, review, and revise language to keep contracts in compliance with University policies and applicable laws. Explain complex legal issues to university faculty and others. 2. Negotiate, discuss and/or justify proposed contract changes with outside parties. 3. Perform intake of contract requests. Gather required information and documentation from University faculty; keep faculty and departments informed of contract status. Create, maintain, and update contract records in database. Scan and link documents in database, route contracts for signatures. Prepare and request compliance approvals from other University departments. 4. Works closely with the general counsel, OTM business development team, university faculty, department administrators, and outside parties on contract and related research information to evaluate and strategize on contract negotiations. Update investigators, department personnel and others on status of agreements. 5. Generate reports, and perform other projects and tasks as assigned. 6. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Associate's Degree in paralegal studies or Paralegal Certificate, or two years of experience in contracts or a related field (e.g. legal, intellectual property, etc.). Preferred Qualifications * Bachelors degree and one year of related experience * Experience with technology transfer contracts in a university or industry environment preferred * Basic understanding of intellectual property laws and principals * Strong analytical and organizational skills * Ability to identify and comprehend legal and policy issues in contracts * Ability to practical and appropriate contracting solutions * Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and tact * Ability to maintain confidential information * Ability to function effectively under tight deadlines and high volume * Ability to prioritize multiple tasks/requests/assignments and manage multiple priorities * Working knowledge of intellectual property and contracting skills * Ability to utilize computerized systems data entry, word processing, e-mail, internet, etc. * Ability to maintain a detail-oriented workload * Effective communication skills (written and verbal) * Excellent customer service orientation * Rapid proficiency of the IP/Contracts database systems * Ability to interact professionally with outside parties, and with faculty and administrative staff at the University Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $40,502 - $51,597 annually.
