    Position Information Posting Details Posting Number 043532 Position Title Engagement Specialist Number of Vacancies 1 School/College/Division/Institutes/Centers 31 - Executive Office of the President Primary Department H3103-VP Economic Development Essential Functions (Job Duties) Job Purpose Reporting to the Director, Detroit Revitalization Fellow's program, the Engagement Specialist develops and administers programs, external relations and internal operations for the Detroit Revitalization Fellows. Plan programs, monitors budgets oversees procurement and payment activities, leads the development and implementation of the Detroit Revitalization Fellow's' communications plan. Essential Functions Plan and administer strategic events and projects for the Detroit Revitalization Fellowship (DRF) including study trips, Fellows' application and selection processes and Interview Conference. Determine topic for of trips, develop and set agendas, identify and secure presenters, provide media relations, secure logistics. Develop criteria for Fellows application, provide orientation to reviewers, develop interview questions and schedule interviews. Provide programming and logistics for Interview Conference. Present program introduction, create presentations, develop surveys, schedule interviews, coordinate travel, secure hotel, etc. Manage and maintain the online presence of DRF. Create a communications plan that may include but is not limited to the program's website and social media. Create marketing content and materials to promote programs, identify opportunities to showcase the fellowship and the expertise of Fellows and staff at conferences, events, workshops, etc. Secure positive media coverage and public relations opportunities for DRF. Assist with the establishment and maintenance of critical relationships with internal and external groups that can further promote the positive branding of DRF including seeking out opportunities for consulting, establishing connections with other urban fellowships, etc. Assist DRF staff in the planning, development and implementation of program/project strategies, events and initiatives. This may include, but is not limited to, developing and coordinating correspondence with our partners, assisting with the planning for monthly sessions, providing individual and group presentations and developing informational packets, program materials, promotional literature, and periodic reports. Order catering, secure venues, coordinate hotel accommodations. Manage the Director's calendar in reference to these and other events. Manage and provide work leadership to an hourly technician in processing invoices, contracts, reimbursements and salary subsidy disbursement and interface with vendors, Disbursements and the program's Business Affairs Officer to resolve problems. Gather insights and offer solutions for internal staff needs including but not limited to administration, program, strategy, operations, etc. Assist with the development of short and long range strategic plans. In coordination with the DRF Director, look for opportunities to hone and refine staff skills and expand knowledge. This could include finding trainings, seminars, conferences, webinars, etc. that can help the staff do what they do better. Other duties as assigned by the DRF Director. Unique Duties (SPAN) Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education Bachelor's degree Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration or Public Administration, Urban Planning, Real Estate, Community or Economic Development or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience is required. Experience Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience) Two years' experience in a program management position. Experience in marketing, outreach and writing. Experience coordinating events or specific program initiatives. Experience as a public sector or noon profit employee preferred. Familiarity with Detroit's civic, community and economic development landscape preferred. Experience with creating documentation and/or promotional material. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities COMMUNICATION SKILLS Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of their organization and ours. Good proofreading and editing skills are ideal. Ability to adapt to a variety of evolving methods and styles of communication in the workplace. Ability to facilitate small group discussions and activities. Be comfortable with having courageous conversations. TECHNOLOGY SKILLS Competency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Skills desired in performing online searches using existing tools (Google, Bing, etc.) and WSU library services (i.e., electronic databases). Experience with online tools and programs such as Google docs, Google surveys, SurveyMonkey, Basecamp, and Asana and Wrike. Capability to learn Blackboard, Pipeline, WaynePM and other software tools specific to the University community. Familiarity with, or ability to learn, University technology/administrative systems, including Banner FMS and HRMS systems, etc. Experience in, familiarity or desire to learn effective strategies for pro-active uses of social media in a professional environment.
