    Assistant Professor of Mathematics

    Join Westminster College’s faculty in a learning environment where teaching and attention to student growth are the primary focus. Students can choose from more than 30 majors or a self-designed major to pursue a bachelor's degree. This liberal arts institution is located in the small town of Fulton, Missouri, recently noted as one of the “15 Best Small Towns to Visit in 2019” by Smithsonian Magazine. Budget Travel Magazine designated Fulton one of the top 10 Coolest Small Towns in America. In recent years the rate of admittance to graduate school or job placement of our students was 97%, with our graduate earnings ranking in the top 15% nationwide.

    The Department of Mathematics & Physics invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics. The department is committed to excellent and engaging instruction, both for our majors and for the general education curriculum. As a department in a liberal arts institution, we take pride in teaching our students mathematics focused on understanding, thinking critically, and considering innovative solutions to problems.

    Tenure-track positions are academic year appointments (August-May). The selected candidate will be responsible for:

    Providing 23-25 semester hours of effective instruction per academic year

    Providing student support and advising

    Maintaining posted office hours

    Working effectively and professionally with colleagues

    Expectations also include service to the college at the department, discipline, campus and college-wide levels. Westminster College seeks a candidate dedicated to ongoing creative and professional growth, expecting the successful candidate to demonstrate levels of scholarship that are consistent with the college's focus on teaching. Demonstration of effective teaching strategies are required.

    Required Education:

    A Ph.D. in Mathematics is required by time of appointment.

    Evidence of excellent teaching experience at the collegiate level is desired.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    Ability to teach a variety of mathematics courses at the undergraduate level.

    Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods.

    Ability to relate to a diverse student population and facilitate individual student learning.

    Ability to support students in independent research and study.

    Effective oral and written communication skills.

    Demonstrated knowledge of instructional technology.

    Overview of Allocated Time: Instruction (60%), Service (20%), Creative and Scholarly Activity (20%)
