    Director of Alumni Engagement

    Under the supervision of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for the planning and implementation of a comprehensive plan of programs and projects that strategically engage and provide tangible benefits to alumni, current and prospective students, and the greater Westminster College community. Serving as an ambassador, the Director of Alumni Engagement collaborates with colleagues in campus-wide offices, including (but not limited to) Enrollment Services, Student Life and Institutional Advancement, to create and maintain pathways for alumni participation that advances the mission and goals of the College. This is a full time, exempt and benefits eligible position.

    Essential Functions:

    Plan, implement and promote alumni programs that support the College’s strategic plan, as well as the goals of any fundraising campaigns.

    Supervise and guide the Annual Fund and Alumni Engagement Coordinator position in implementing segmented outreach campaigns to increase alumni participation, event attendance and giving.

    Implement and promote integrated alumni volunteer plan to increase alumni volunteerism.

    Establish and build relationships with a wide range of alumni, locally, regionally, nationally and internationally; maintain regular communication with alumni via direct contact, email blasts, alumni web pages, and print publications.

    Plan and attend alumni events in key markets.

    Educate students, especially graduating seniors, about alumni benefits and engage them in programs.

    Partner with Enrollment Services to spearhead the introduction of alumni involvement in the admissions process

    Partner with the Director of Career Development to plan the growth and accessibility of career networking services for students and alumni.

    Collaborate closely with development colleagues in increasing support from alumni; routinely identify and qualify alumni prospects for gifts.

    Provide leadership support to the Alumni Council to guide their efforts to engage more alumni in meaningful activities.

    Provide staff support to the Parents’ Association to help guide their efforts to engage more families in meaningful activities.

    Provide oversight to the Student Ambassadors as they fulfill their responsibilities “to ensure the establishment and maintenance of a strong relationship between the college and its constituents.”

    Job Requirements:

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree

    Experience: A minimum of three years in alumni relations or external affairs is preferred along with a thorough understanding of ‘best practices’ for engaging alumni in a meaningful manner. Experience with working with volunteers is preferred. Proven communication skills – ability to establish and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, student, alumni and friends of the College. Ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

    Skills: Ability to assume role as a self-starter. Maintain a high level of professionalism and understanding of ethical standards when handling confidential information. Ability to strategize, create and build constituent programs with the goal of “volunteer ownership” of the program. Ability to work as a team member as well as independently to complete projects.
