    Health and Safety Compliance Coordinator

    Department: Plant Operations / Student Life

    FLSA: Exempt

    Reports to: Executive Director of Safety and Plant Operations

    The Health and Safety Compliance Coordinator oversees the institutional compliance program by identifying and managing environmental and safety obligations, developing and implementing best practices in both areas. Oversee the institutional compliance program to identify and manage environmental and safety obligations, regulatory requirements of the College through the review and evaluation of policy, contracts, Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Missouri Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Office on Civil Rights/American Disabilities Act requirements. Provides guidance, training, and expertise to departments on compliance issues.

    Essential Functions:

    Responsible for developing, initiating, and revising policies and procedures; performing facilities inspections as well as department audits; employee training, including laboratory safety training; and providing recommendations to ensure that the College’s facilities, work procedures, research protocols, and/or scientific research laboratories comply with laws, rules, policies and procedures that regulate safety and environmental compliance.

    Assist Executive Director and Clery Task Force in collecting annual Clery statistics as well as updating the Annual Security Report and sharing with campus as federally mandated.

    Develops working relationships with various internal parties and may work with external parties, as needed. Serves as the primary campus contact for regulatory agencies.

    Conducts periodic internal reviews/audits of policies and procedures regarding compliance, initiates, and directs internal investigations as needed.

    Provides reports regularly, or as requested, for internal and external partners including Cabinet informing changes, budget needs, and federal mandates.

    Works closely with Campus Safety & Security and the Coulter Science Center Laboratory, Purchasing, and Budget Manager to help ensure the safety and security of the Coulter Science Center (CSC).

    Chairs the campus safety committee, convening meetings, provides training/recommendations, and is a member and of the Coulter Task Force. Responsible for updating and maintaining emergency response plan, which can also include training and/or directing emergency preparedness.

    Ensures compliance with all environmental, chemical, biological, and hazardous waste, waste management and recycling regulations. Serves as the primary contact for chemical spills and CSC emergencies. Maintains regulatory documents/meeting minutes to ensure compliance.

    Job Requirements:

    *Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferably with a major in Occupational Safety, Industrial Management or Technology, Industrial Engineering or Operations.

    *Experience:

    A minimum of 2 years’ experience relating to operational, risk, financial, quality assurance, and legal procedures and regulations is required.

    Higher education experience is preferred.

    Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, Clery, Missouri law and DNR regulations.

    Demonstrated knowledge in recognition, evaluation and control of hazardous materials including handling, labeling, properties, storage, and disposal.

    Experience working with diverse populations.

    Experience contributing to campus diversity efforts.

    Ability to apply facts to the rules and regulations.

    Ability to assess the alternatives and make decisions based on the risk.

    Working knowledge of laboratory equipment and chemicals.

    Equipment to be used:

    Must be able to operate the computer and all of the associated software used at the college including Microsoft Office 365 and Raiser's Edge and other office machines such as the fax, calculator, telephone, copy machine and printers.
