    POSITION DESCRIPTION:  

    The Director of Infrastructure is responsible for leading the Network, Systems, Service Desk, and Cloud Engineering teams. This position entails contributing leadership as well as hands-on expertise to help support existing systems, create a roadmap for the respective departments, assist in budget planning and resourcing, ready the teams for substantial growth, architect technical solutions, create and track metrics and KPIs, define/support relevant SLAs per service, support security initiatives, support analytics and machine learning initiatives, and create an environment that welcomes necessary/efficient changes and transformations. This role works with the Director of Data Services, other members of the Technology team to tackle enterprise-wide challenges, and the Information Security team. This role reports directly to the CIO. 

    Complying with HIPAA regulations as well as Discovery’s HIPAA and Information Security policies and procedures, including required training and incident reporting. 

     

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & JOB FUNCTION: 

    • Managing the Network, Systems, Service Desk, and Cloud Systems teams. 

    • Ensuring day-to-day performance of IT systems, network, and infrastructure, including systems maintenance and availability; improving internal IT operations business process; defining regular and predictable release cycles as part of a secure software development lifecycle; ensuring security patches are tested and deployed according to written standards; effectively managing and supporting change management for IT changes. 

    • Defining/managing company’s cloud posture (efficient and documented utilization of cloud services); creating cloud and infrastructure strategy and execution plan (i.e., optimize AWS cost/usage, component standards, SLA’s for uptime & monitoring, etc.). 

    • Providing efficient server management processes (including security related tasks, documentation, inventory, etc.); ensuring alignment with security requirements (i.e., patching, encryption, etc.). 

    • Developing and maintaining a Business Continuity Plan and a Disaster Recovery Plan, and ensuring successful annual testing of each. 

    • Leveraging new and innovative technologies (new development as well as refactoring of existing systems) to solve system-wide problems or enable new business capabilities. 

    • Optimizing, automating and building resilient and repeatable labor-free processes (consignments, ad-hoc reports, etc.) to support business operations; overseeing client consignment and data loading processes to ensure each runs optimally, including establishing metrics and monitoring file loads, triaging/remediating issues, and improving consignment load speed, quality and accuracy. 

    • Developing and managing effective IT policies and procedures aligned with HITRUST and SOC2 control framework; actively participating in third-party audit programs. 

    • Defining quarterly MITs (Most Important Tasks) in support of the company-wide VFOs (Vital Few Objectives) for all Infrastructure team members. 

    • Defining, tracking and meeting SLAs/metrics/KPIs by function, process and/or individual, as appropriate. 

    • Helping define and project budgeting and resourcing needs for the team. 

    • Estimating long term projects and ensuring successful (quality, time and cost) implementation. 

    • Meeting with all stakeholders and business partners (operations, security, solutions, finance, etc.) regularly to understand their requirements and challenges, and planning/executing to meet their expectations. 

    • Collaborating with members of the Enterprise Architecture team to deliver efficient solutions. 

    • Collaborating with members of the Data Services team to ensure that business critical workflows are fully supported and automated. 

    • Providing mentorship and technical guidance for daily and ongoing challenges. This could involve hands-on collaboration, coaching team members on best practices, trouble-shooting, testing, and implementation, peer review, as well as pairing to resolve complex problems. 

    • Developing and recommending standards, guidelines, and best practices.

     

    Required Skills

    • BS degree in Computer Science or technology related field or equivalent experience or combination of experience/education. 

    • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) required. Solid skills with encryption, security groups, cloud watch, cloud trail, and S3 Permissions, experience with; Glacier, EC2, EBS Encryption, Lambda/Step Functions, Storage Gateway API/S3FS, VPC, ACL/SCP/IAM policies, and/or RDS beneficial.  

    • AWS Solution Architect certification a plus.  

    • 5+ years with cloud infrastructure deployments, specifically AWS and Azure; including S3, EC2, Step, billing and budgeting. Application migration to AWS experience, resulting in cost reduction.  

    • Extensive Windows Server experience (2008, 2012, 2016, 2019), including Active Directory; experience managing Microsoft 365 (email, SharePoint, One Drive, etc.) SQL Server, Web Server, SSL Certificates, and Basic DBA skills.  

    • Strong communication and writing skills. 

    • 3 to 5 years leading a team of engineers to deliver business critical applications. 

    • IT infrastructure/operations management experience 

    • 8+ years as a principal engineer or an infrastructure tech lead. 

    • 3+ years Windows Server and Active directory administration experience. 

    • 3+ years of supporting relational/key-value store/columnar databases, data warehouses and data lakes. 

    • Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, Python, Go, or Ruby beneficial. 

    • 3+ years of hands-on Linux shell scripting. 

    • 1+ years of working with common frameworks and technologies (JIRA, ITIL Service Desk and Change Management). ITIL preferred and certification a plus.  

    • Experience building and testing disaster recovery plans, preferably with AWS 

    • Experience with Healthcare industry to enable adequate understanding of HIPAA requirements. 

    • Experience managing and maintaining Infrastructure Budget, Vendor Management, RFP's, and procurement. 

    • Effective at learning new technologies and approaches. 

    • Experience facilitating discussions and building consensus. 

    • Experience monitoring system performance and up time, SLA's, and reporting Understanding of system and application lifecycle management 

    • Experience leading and managing a team, making hiring decisions, completing performance reviews, and driving employee engagement/motivation. 

    • Experience with asset and data management
