Department: Diversity & Inclusion Purpose of Department: WPU Office of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) provides support, advocacy, training & education and community building events and programs for the WPU students, faculty and staff. The office has a programmatic focus on the needs and topics of minority students including students who identify as members of marginalized groups or identities such as LGBTQIA+, first generation college students, women, international students, African American, Latinx/Hispanic, Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander, etc. Summary of Position: Expectations for this role would inclue: Arrange work schedule to meet the needs of our student population; an engage directly with students on behalf of the D & I office. Check email regularly, return phone calls in a timely manner, and participate in meetings as requested. Notify supervisor when out sick or out of the office, giving as much advance notice as possible. Inform supervisor of changes in work schedule, giving as much advance notice as possible. Implement campus wide diversity & inclusion initiatives. Essential duties and responsibilities: Coordinate & collaborate with the Minority Student Association ( MSA ) and other key student organizations to develop or implement periodic cultural events on campus, such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Trans Day of Remembrance, Womens History month, International/Diversity Week, Black History Month, LGBTQIA History Month, Hanukah & Kwanza celebrations, Yam Kippur, Ramadan, etc. Develop and coordinate opportunities for engagement, community building an academic enrichment progrms for the Men Of Peace Program. Coordinate the SAFE ZONE faulty/staff taskforce implementing Safe Zone trainings each semester Present classroom talks and/or facilitate student dialogues regarding diversity, inclusion and cultural competence. Coordinate & track student participation in the Minority Student Association, and other affinity groups. Update/Edit department web content and social media platforms collaboratively with the Director. Minimum Qualifications: The Diversity and Inclusion Intern (D&II) must have completed an undergraduate degree and have relevant experience. The D&II must be currently enrolled in a Masters or Doctoral Program that requires an internship experience in higher education or in a related field. The D&II must demonstrate interpersonal and relationship building skills, and student programming and or training ability . Also possess a sincere concern for others, demonstrates /models empathy, strong organizational and administrative skills, strong group facilitation skills and the ability to advise and meet the needs of student groups. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of and/or experience in social identity theory, multicultural competence, gender & sexuality, race/ethnicity and intersectionality programming and or training.
