    FULL-TIME, 40 HOURS PER WEEK, DAY SHIFT, 8:00AM - 5:00PM, MONDAY-FRIDAY

     

    SUMMARY:

    Manages and coordinates activities of employees engaged in performing analytic testing to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Managerially directs the operations of the assigned laboratory divisions to include human resource performance management and development, billing/reimbursement, business planning, strategic planning and project management.

     

    PURPOSE:

    The purpose of this document is to describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel as classified; it is not intended to serve as an inclusive list of all responsibilities associated with this position.

     

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    1. Fulfills the functions of general supervisor for regulatory requirements and provides 24/7 rotating on call coverage. 
    2. Assigns, directs, and schedules staff while overseeing performance of testing in departments of automation, microbiology, histology, cytopathology, immunology, toxicology, molecular, flow cytometry, POCT, pathology, etc. May have oversight for related Clinical Support area. 
    3. Develops and maintains department Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) according to the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. 
    4. Establishes standards, normal values and methods of control for each laboratory test performed in accordance with regulatory and accrediting agencies and in conjunction with clinical/medical leadership. 
    5. Plans, designs and implements installation of new or improved laboratory techniques. Reviews quality control data, recognizes and resolves problems as well as prepares or directs preparation of various qualitative and quantitative reports and records.  
    6. Performs ongoing departmental monitoring to improve quality, workflow, staff productivity, and employee satisfaction and is responsible for the mentoring, coaching and development of direct reports. 
    7. Prepares and administers departmental budgets and recommends purchase of capital equipment in conjunction with division Director, Administrator, or V.P. 
    8. Designs and administers quality control program for each testing section. 
    9. Consults on work in progress and completed work to assure accuracy. 
    10. Directs the proper storage of hazardous materials and the laboratory safety program in conjunction with the safety officer. 
    11. Demonstrates the understanding of all duties and responsibilities of those supervised and when applicable serves as a technical specialist in area of oversight. 
    12. Reviews current literature and attends meetings and seminars to keep informed of new developments in field. 
    13. Coordinates and conducts education and training programs for personnel. Develops training/competency checklists and provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students. Supports Education Department personnel/trainers and/or designee in the training/orientation of new staff. 
    14. Actively participates in the Continuous System Improvement (CSI) and continuing education programs. 
    15. Coordinates new business with the Sales Department.

    Education/Experience:

     

    Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, and/or a combination of education and no less than 6 years’ experience.

     

     

    Language Ability:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Must demonstrate patience, tact and a cheerful disposition

     

    Math Ability:

     

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

     

     

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

     

    Computer Skills:

    Ability to use Microsoft office products and various other software products including the Laboratory Information System.  

     

    Certificates and Licenses:

     

    Specialty certification by a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals required within 3 years of hire.
