  • Responsibilities

    Boston University and the Space Physics and Technology Lab (SPTL) is hiring a project manager to work on the Lunar Environment heliospheric X-ray Imager (LEXI) project. LEXI is a NASA-supported project to develop and to deploy an X-ray telescope on the lunar surface in 2021, as part of the first set of American experiments traveling to the moon since 1972. The LEXI mission is led by Boston University in collaboration with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Alaska - Fairbanks. The LEXI project requires a Project Manager to work closely with the Principal Investigator as well as team members at other member organizations. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: maintaining a project schedule and ensuring timely deliverables; interfacing with the launch provider and funding agency; tasking and monitoring activity and progress with team members and associated institutes; interfacing with vendors and ensuring timely progress; working with the mission team to develop mission critical documents including interface control, operation, integration and test plan; and organizing team meetings and design reviews. Periodic travel to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center is anticipated.

    Required Skills

    • BA/BS Degree, Advanced Degree preferred

    • Three years of experience is required with five years or more preferred.

    • Experience or background in aerospace engineering or astrophysics preferred but not required.

    • Strong leader with effective communication skills.

    • Proven time management skills and detail oriented.

    • Ability to work independently and push tasks to completion.

    • Familiarity with project management tools.
