    ASSISTANT DIRECTOR – PLANNED GIVING

     

    The Planned Giving Office at Boston University is a service organization providing information and expertise on the full array of planned gifts to internal and external clients. The department is comprised of six professionals responsible for generating and stewarding planned gifts for programs and Schools at Boston University. This team collaborates closely with the school-based teams, as well as with principal gifts, leadership gifts and alumni relations. In creating a culture of heightened awareness of gift planning as a desirable funding option, the department is an important contributor to the long-term strategic fundraising initiatives of the university.

     

    JOB SCOPE

     

    Develop strategies and implement programs to expand planned giving through identifying, cultivating, educating and soliciting prospects for outright, planned and estate gifts. This position works closely with the staff in planning and implementing a wide range of fund-raising activities, strategies, programs, and priorities.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS – WITH PERCENTAGES

     

    • Develop strategies to identify, cultivate and solicit planned gift prospects, including developing ways to uncover new prospects, taking a proactive role in reaching out to prospects, working with prospects to educate them on planned gift options, and soliciting and closing outright and planned gifts (irrevocable and revocable). Individual goal of 120 prospect visits per year. (60%)
    • Support regional and school-based gift officers in exploring planned giving opportunities with prospects, preparing planned gift proposals, and participating in joint calls/visits. (20%)
    • Assist School and region-based gift officers with the development and execution of gift planning strategies and work with them to develop and execute a planned giving component within their school campaign plan. (15%)
    • Miscellaneous participation on department projects, e.g. prospecting and stewardship event planning, planned gift reporting, preparation and delivery of internal training, etc. (5%)

    Required Skills

    The Assistant Director of Planned Giving at Boston University will be an experienced and talented frontline fundraiser with a track record of successful engagement with prospects and donors.  3-5 years of direct fundraising experience with proven results in soliciting and closing planned gifts is required. Related experience in estate planning, wealth management or financial services would also be considered. Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree. Additionally, advanced written communications, attention to detail, analytical skills and collaboration skills are required. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
