    Position Description/General Summary: The International Admissions Specialist is a key role within the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) responsible for completing immigration processing for approximately 5,000 new international undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree students admitted annually to both the Charles River and Medical Campuses. Directly reporting to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Student Services, the International Admissions Specialist performs detailed credential and immigration review and analysis, creates new student profiles, issues immigration documents, and advises incoming students to facilitate their arrival in the US in the appropriate immigration status. In addition, this position manages student record maintenance and data entry during new student check-in.

    Key Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

    •Evaluates undergraduate, graduate, and non-degree admission materials to determine appropriate immigration sponsorship strategy to facilitate new international student arrival and enrollment.

    •Develops and maintains expertise in nonimmigrant student regulations pertaining to onboarding of new students. Provides professional immigration advice, customer service, and assistance to newly admitted students concerning arrival to the US, visa application issues, SEVIS transfers, changing programs at Boston University, and other related subjects.

    •Creates and maintains the initial electronic records for all new international admissions.

    •Manages student record maintenance and data entry during new student check-in

    •Assists Assistant Director with maintaining and communicating policies and procedures to students and administrators through written communication, workshops and website updates.

    •Serves as liaison and represents ISSO to the undergraduate admissions office and the graduate admission coordinators at both campuses with relation to processing immigration documents for new admits.

    •Assists Assistant Director for Admissions and Student Support Services as required with all new student activities involving onboarding international students for all programs. Assumes full responsibility for these activities in the absence of the Assistant Director for Admissions and Student Support Services.

    • Required Qualifications, Skills, Abilities:
    • Minimum of a masters degree in a field directly related to international education administration -Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in immigration and advising, international admissions or closely related profession
    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate and resolve complex immigration cases
    • Outstanding customer support skills
    • Superior communication skills to develop and maintain strong professional relationships with admissions personnel at BU schools and colleges
    • Ability to work effectively, both individually and in a team setting
    • Strong organizational skills to process admission credentials in accurate, timely manner
    • Adherence to Boston Universitys compliance policies and guidelines; sensitivity to highly confidential material
    • Strong technical skills needed for effective use of various software programs and student information systems
    • Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident in order to register with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State to carry out the responsibilities of the position
