The second-level Computer Aided Drafter/Designer prepares construction drawings and documents for multiple systems, including natural gas transmission and distribution pipelines, substation, underground, and overhead electrical projects including physical layouts, elevations, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Technicians continue developing a greater understanding of project requirements. This role performs assignments designed to transfer information from Designers and Engineers to electronic drawing files.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Use computer-aided drafting tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Revit, as well as technical handbooks, utility standards, tables, and calculators
Develop intermediate-level skills in use of AutoCAD Civil 3D and handbooks or standards
Confer with designers, engineers and other staff members to resolve problems and create construction documents
Begin to learn design skills
Learn to prepare quantity take-offs in a professional and organized manner
Work under the direction of senior designers and engineers
Meet client and NV5's requirements and standards
Manage and maintain design records and files
Begin to complete as-built drawings independently
Increase ability to fulfill assignments that require independent judgment and evaluation
Able to work with minimal supervision
Develop career via peer-learning through sharing of knowledge with other experienced designers and engineers
Minimal travel to client sites as needed (expected to be no more than 10% of time)
EDUCATION
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
2-5 years of AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
2-5 experience drafting in a utility or power-delivery environment
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
Positive attitude, able to collaboratively work with others
Be able to mentor others
Work independently with minimal supervision
Some knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, PLS-CADD
Knowledge of NV5, client, and industry standards
Based on timely and accurate completion of work
Attends in-house seminars and educational opportunities outside of the offices
This position requires sitting for extensive periods of time
Must be able to visually interpret complex drawings
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Certificate of Training in technical drafting or equivalent work in engineering environment
Valid driver's license
