RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS SPECIFIC ROLE WILL INCLUDE, BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:
- Support the delivery of strategy, planning, and implementation projects focused on sustainability, decarbonization, ESG, resilience and resource conservation
- Assist clients in pursuing, tracking, and complying with various net zero or other sustainability frameworks, such as LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, Envision, etc.
- Contribute to projects at various stages of ideation or implementation at various scales of intervention, from single measures to fit-outs, to master-planning, and infrastructure developments
- Conduct research into a variety of sustainability, decarbonization, resilience, and equity topics (e.g., architectural materials and technology, funding/financing/incentives, sustainability and/or resilience policy, health of communities, and social equity)
- Develop lifecycle cost calculations, water balance calculations, building energy models, renewable and distributed energy feasibility studies, operational and embodied carbon calculations, or resilience assessments, under guidance from more senior members of the team
- Conduct site visits for field data collection and actively participate in internal or external client meetings along with more senior members of the team
- Contribute to project deliverables including presentations and reports, managing sub-tasks to assist the team in tracking project deliverables and schedules
- Develop sketches, charts, graphics, and other digital illustrations of sustainability concepts to visualize design strategies for client presentations and other external needs
QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in building or community design/engineering field or related science, such as Architecture, Building Science, Mechanical/Electrical/Public Health/Civil/Environmental Engineering, City Planning, Environmental Science/Policy/Management, or similar
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA or higher
- Proficient in use of software like MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, interactive Adobe PDFs
- Knowledge of sustainability frameworks such as LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Living Building Challenge, Envision, etc.
- Demonstrated foundational understanding of concepts related to sustainability, operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources, social equity, and environmental justice issues
- Excellent time management skills, with ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional research, writing, communication, and presentation skills to communicate work in a clear, concise, and logical format
- Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
- For positions in the US, proficiency in written and spoken English is required
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future
PREFERRED:
- Master's degree in building or community design/engineering field or related science, such as Architecture, Building Science, Mechanical/Electrical/Energy/Environmental Engineering, City Planning, Environmental Science/Policy/Management, or similar
- Internship or prior work experience with a consulting, planning, or design firm, or government agency focused on sustainability, decarbonization, environmental initiatives
- Knowledge of building energy simulation, whole-life carbon, and graphic communication software, such as, IES VE, Rhino + Grasshopper, EnergyPlus, SketchUp, OpenStudio, Tally, Athena Impact Estimator, Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, etc.
- Familiarity with traditional but also new innovative building systems and technologies (e.g., advanced lighting, heat recovery, heat pumps, low-carbon concrete)
- Professional accreditation under a sustainability rating framework such as LEED or WELL accredited professional
- Successful completion of coursework in sustainability, operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources, social equity, and environmental justice issues
