The Adler Planetarium is seeking an OpenSpace Intern to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Position The Space Visualization Group OpenSpace intern will perform scientific visualization work using the OpenSpace software. OpenSpace is open source interactive data visualization software designed to visualize the entire known universe and portray our ongoing efforts to investigate the cosmos. The intern will assist in creating immersive scientific visualization content and presenting that content to the public. In particular, the intern will prototype and document the creation of new visualizations with OpenSpace such that they can be performed by high school aged students as part of the Adler's Summer Teem Internship program. The Person The project will involve using a variety of planetary science software packages to process astrophysical data. An understanding of basic Astronomy, solid computer skills, and experience working with youth are all key components of this internship. Required Qualifications: * Must be a current undergraduate student majoring in Astronomy or Physics * Computer Programming Experience The Team The Space Visualization Group develops immersive visualizations of astrophysical phenomena. All of this in service of inspiring exploration of that mind-blowing thing we call our Universe.
